The cats out of the bag!!!

These are incredible pieces of aeroplane! Beautiful models, beautifully painted! Thank you, Ted, Steve and John!

I've never felt dizzy in CFS before, but looking out of the gunner's nacelle over at the soil of Malta flashing below, I got a mild touch of it! Incredible!

Give credit to

Please don't forget Steve Seybolt for the cockpits and gunstations. Also, the virtual navy guys for letting me use a few of the pieces from their original Cat.

This plane was truly a team effort and my thanks to all involved!!!!

Oh, once in a while I'll cheat and the tunnel gun does not have an exterior door, there were some issues that could not be resolved so a compromise.

Ndicki, it is so cool to take off from the water and reach a height of 2000 feet and cruise at 110 for hours. She really handles well I think just a pleasure to fly a lot like what I have read about the original. Now it is time for you guys to make a variety of missions.

Speaking for me, I really enjoyed making this plane and the guys I worked with were great! Thanks again.

Well the Cat is out of the bag in more ways than one. I finished uploading last night (night for me anyway) and intended doing some testing today before I made any announcement...but there are some very keen people out there:icon_lol:

lol - I have been checking your site every day or so since I read you would be having these planes available there.

Again thanks to all involved. Ted, John, and Steve this is awesome. I have been waiting many years for somebody with more telent then I will ever have in this area to make this model(s).

They are divine!

I actually hit a shipyard. (I do not bomb well).

No flaps, hun?
Well, they are almost impossible to stall.

Wanted one for a very long time --
thank you so very, very much.

Makes me want to do some skins again.

Beau Brummie,

I was only teasing when I asked that, and pleasantly surprised that 'Ted' had one on the workbench!

Lewis11777,

I sent to you my personal .xdp edits via private messege to avoid any further confusions in this thread.

Anyone else,

Yes these Catalinas are a superb, I absolutely love float planes, thanks to the developers ad infinitum!

We All Have Our Little Quirks

I have a WWII picture of one getting ready to start engines and they have a crewman - fireguard posted on top of the wing with a fire extinguisher. I recall seeing the same procedure with one being flown at an airshow in Goodyear Airizona 20 years ago. I guess their sweet reputation is really more about after they're up an running without catching on fire.

Will the USN "Black Cat" variation be available?

I have that scheme, and a shed load more, from various airforces ready, will be released ASAP but not sure when!:mixedsmi:

I'll get a few shots together when I get a bit more time!

John

Phenozo I appreciate that but your cut and paste didn't take. It just had the model names with nothing underneath themt. I sent you my email so you can email those back to me.

Yeah, I saw that sweet lookin' skin in a previous thread, that's why I was asking about it. Certainly not trying to rush you and SOH has a lot of work ahead before it's ready for downloads I am sure.
Just curious and looking forward to it.

I'm backing up my "clean" ETO folders and am going to install these planes now, thank you Lewis for the quick-fix solution to the .xpd file error(s?) which I assume is the same for the W_QZ.

Your welcome Phenozo, can you post the portion of description you used so I can past into my .xpd[/QUOTE]

:wavey: Hey guys All I did was edit the xml to look like this, and both planes worked great.:jump:
<Description String="1% - TK_PBY5
The Catalina is perhaps the most successful seaplane ever built and played a key role in the Battle of the Atlantic, attacking surfaced U-Boats in the North Atlantic and Bay of Biscay.
note:
To use the waist gunner positions in this model you need to first open the blisters by hitting ctl+c
To lower the wing floats for landing and take off hit shift+b to raise and lower them.

So it looks like there may be an amphibian version without all the aerials coming too?

I met the pilots grandson a few years ago, and he told me the story of how he'd recently gotten the plane's log book back from Slew McCain's estate. That got me interested in doing a skin for the first plane to land on Henderson Field 12 Aug 42. It was a Navy PBY-5A (BuNo 05045)
