The Fiat CR 42 is ready...

I just uploaded it!

It's a huge file, but has a lot of extras. Twenty eight aircrafts in six different versions.

What a beautiful plane! :icon30: (we need some propeller plane icons!)

Despite being away from CFS2 for a long time, I couldn't help but load it once more to see this beauty in flight.

I noticed a couple of problems, one of them easily solved. The first one is that the VC and pilot textures are in a format that CFS2 can't read. I just changed them to DXT1 and everything went fine. Another is that my plane explodes in Free Flight when starting ready to take off (flies OK though if I start already in flight.). Finally, the machine guns are not aligned with the cross-hair in the panel

I didn't test all versions, only copied one of them in my Mediterranean install (the one called IT_Fiat_CR42_Egeo_FALCO).

A million thanks to manuele, peperez and the B24 Guy :applause:.

I can not understand. The VC is visible at CFS2 at my install and the B24 Guy didn't found anything wrong with it. I take off with all planes without problems...

M$ allways have its mysteries.

The first fix you did yourself - well done !

#2 Exploding on take-off may be related to the aircraft contact points Vs the altitude of the runway. Try another runway and [if you still explode] try adjusting the
static_cg_height in the Aircraft.cfg file. Raising the plane up .5 often solves this issue.

#3 - Use Aim-It.exe to align the guns FIRST, then tweak the [Views] section of your panel.cfg to get the bullet stream in the center of the cross-hairs.

A good starting point is:

[VIEWS]
view_forward_WINDOWS=100,99,98,97,96
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=
2.6, 0.0, 0.0 <--- The RED number raises and lowers the bullet stream

Let us know how it goes, JL !

Greetings from the CFS3 folks. I noticed the texture mapping for this model is nearly identical to the CR.42 we have and we have many of the same skins (but ours are 2048x2048) (I think they're both from the same source model). I was wondering who the painter was and if he has a 2048x2048 version of the Luftwaffe version as we currently don't have any Luftwaffe skins for this model and a larger texture would display way nicer in CFS3. I ask as many of the skins in this package are essentially 1024x1024 versions of the same skins we have in CFS3 with a few small parts mapped to different places. Thank in advance for any help.

About the exploding plane, is a scenery problem. I take off with the Egeo, that has more fuel than other versions, without problems. About the VC panel, you're right! I believed the black background was corrected for it, but it enhanced a lot with DXT1 format. I think you MUST upload your fix. It's allways my policy let the bug fixer upload the files.

TO SC2500. Everytime I use AimIt I got an unusable DP and, invariable, a CTD. I think the best way is to edit DP manually.

It was based on YOUR CR42. I think you can use the Luftwaffe without problems. You can find Manuele Villa here. Look for MVG3 and send a PM.

No problem, here it is:

These BMP files substitute the ones in the folder Common_textures of the original download. They've been converted to DXT1 format with Martin Wright's DXTBmp utility.

Feel free to add it to the main file if you think it is better/easier.

Pepe' I'm beginning to think you and I have Polar Opposite Computer setups...... :blind:

Believe it or not, I never succeed to get an usable DP using AimIt. The current DP was made over Thicko's one. The original one has only one wing! I added the lower wings, remove parts as flaps, CR42's has no flaps, and created more boxes, like the stabilizators and the fixed landing gears. I didn't check the guns! Just put the correct firepower. Everybody used it at last five years without complains!

I'll give a look and upload a fix!

No Complaints Here !

Not complaining - your work is excellent.

Just never cease to be amazed at the fine differences in how software works on different computers...

Believe it or not, I uploaded the wrong file. The real one flies still better! Checking some complains, I dowloaded the package and did a try and notice it was different from the planes I'm flying. I'll upload today the correct one with some fixes and new features. I created two 2D panels that give a better look around at quickcom (Morten one was kept as an alternative for the realism fanatics). I also created one early plane with one 12.7mm and a 7.7mm machine gun.

Cheers

I could not resist...

and I did a night harasment Hungarian plane. All remainig Falcos were modified to night attack, armed with four 50 kg bombs, but were never used in this mode.

Peperez,

I made sure to delete the old aircraft when I approved the new. Thanks for the heads-up! :salute:
