The Frozen North.....

Just got the word that we're expecting 6 - 12 inches of snow up here in Northern Illinois tomorrow followed by an Artic front that will drop temps into the bitter cold.....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Happened to be up the other night at 2am, and heard the distinct sound of a snow-mobile cutting around in the woods out back of the house. At 2am in 10 degree weather.....:isadizzy:

Yeah, it's kind of cold here in Central GA also.... BRRRRR.... However, I feel that we can't really ignore some of the more obvious warning signs that we've been experiencing over the last few decades as shown here:

http://www.climatehotmap.org/

We can just ignore them, and things will just go away, like a bad tooth, eh?? Instead of singing "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", we'll be singing "Where Have All the Glaciers Gone", and be watching the potential disappearance of perhaps all our Polar Bears. Kind of sad IMHO.....

Yup, there ain't no Global Warming going on.....:kilroy:

I had three cords of firewood delivered three days ago, and have had my wood stove roaring ever since. So far, neither of my central heating units have come on even once! I am bound and determined NOT to give the electric company one cent more than I have to!!

Hey Chief, what are you paying for your wood and what kind is it? Around here it's $150/cord for Black Poplar which is junk and $300 for Birch or Oak. My brother-in-law and sister burn wood but they/we:173go1: cut our own. Nothing beats a wood fire to warm the old bones.

Regards, Rob:ernae:

Yup Odie, that's crazy alright!

They must have been in golf gear, not snowmobile suits.. 10*F is winter picnic weather!
Up in the "real" north most guys shut down the cars when it hits -35*C and the snomos at -40*C depending on their beer level.:173go1:

I paid $60 per cord: $180 total. Most of it is quite seasoned, and is burning nicely. I have to monitor the wood stove, as the seal on the door is allowing more air than I'd like, and is burning faster as a result. But it STILL is saving me big bucks, not using as much electricity. My father in laws apartment, attached to my garage, has propane heat, and he is really going through the gas. He keeps his apartment about 90! He won't wear sweatshirts or warm clothes. I can't handle visiting with him for more than a couple minutes. It's like a sauna bath in there.

LMAO... I gotta agree with ya Rob. Back in the late 60s and up to the mid 70s we ran our snowmobiles in below zero weather til 1am on weekends.... but we dressed for it. Once in a great while we stop in and warm up at a bar or two. Have a pizza and a beer and then hit the trails to head home. Don't miss it one bit, nor the -0 temps up there.

Down here in Delaware the ki ki birds are out in full force this year. Even feels like I'm back up on the Canadian border of NY, but it's not quite as cold as it up there. Thanks God winter last only 3 to 4 months here instead of the 6 to 7 up there.
