The FSX Howard 500...or; How to find a Howard?

After noting in the FSX native list a re-compiled version or Mr. Shupes legendary Howard- I went charging off to FSnorthwest.net. Had no difficulties with a link from here to there a couple weeks back when another thread mentioned a native re-compile of the Spartan and a native model47 - Sooo nice except the engine dds isn't showing. I'll figure it out.
All links to fsnorthwest.net keep going to a joomblofcuku sign in page that just runs in a circle with out going any where. Is the full monty fsx Howard hosted any where else?
cheers.

I think they closed shop some time ago. As I recall they were one of those operations that seemed to think that it was okay to blow off the desires of the original author in many of the works they "converted".

well, the good news is, the original Howard runs perfectly well on FSX and looks great too.. Still one of my favorites..

Yes it Does warchild, however did you have issues with the spinner in FSX?...I seem to do!...get two black solid disks.....but Its always a beautiful plane...if an answer to this?,,I would appreciate it..thanx..Vin

it sounds like you have the alpha channel problem so many models have that are imported from fs9. Simply use DXTBmp to change the alpha layer on the prop Texture to almost complete black. that should remove that solid disk and make it transparent.

I fixed the spin prop (also Milton Shupe's Beech D-18) 2 years ago. Find it here in the file archive's: howard_fsx.zip or search my name Chuck Lawsen. I also uploaded other prop convs's too, Avsim has a few more besides what's here as well due to requests I rcv'd.

Thank you both...got the "FIX" at Flight Sim Chuck...worked like a charm!......Its fine now in FSX!....Vin!

Huh. There ya go. I just found the clouds/prop thing a bit of a bummer. Oh well. Loads of other stuff to play with, and I can turn off the clouds if I want to.:wavey:

FSNorthwest was NOT (NOT, NOT, NOT) the NorCal Prop Club!

The H500 and Spartan were compiled with XToMDL, which means that they had the source files, which in turn means that Milton gave them away for conversion with his consent.

Just dig up the old threads and you will see.

Hmm. Okay, thats what my impression was. From the docs with the Spartan, it was evident that it was an approved modification. The Nor-cal stuff was crapola on a shingle anyways. Better off dead. So the next question is, did any one save the FSX native re work, and why not attempt to seek permission to preserve those files here if FSNorthwest is defunct. I did manage to download the Spartan and the Bell 47 a few weeks ago, and I'm rather happy with those guys. The Bell 47 is a recomp of the FS9 model? Or an original?
And, any ideas about the engine texture map on the Spartan- which shows solid black. The alpha layer looks nominal in DXTBMP, and the labeling conventions are the same as the FS9 version
Over.

Hey Bjoern...

Thanks for the correction! I'm not sure how I got those groups crossed up. :isadizzy:

No problem. Even though it probably wasn't intentional, I just couldn't let it slip. It's a honest conversion, after all.

I currently have two zip files of this aircraft FSXHoward500.zip (dated 8/25/08) and hw500vc4_updte.zip (dated 9/10/09). Both carry readmes citing an authorized conversion by M. Allen Richards under the banner of FSNorthwest.net. I have never uploaded here but am willing to try if that is what it takes as long as someone can tell me how. I also have a replacement prop texture for the FSX version by Banana Bob and one that was released for the FS2004 version used in FSX by Chuck Lawsen.

That's changed - now there's a title page. The buttons don't work, but maybe it's progress? I know at least one person who says he downloaded from the site as recently as September. I am drooling for the FSX Spartan, and furious that I had it once but deleted it.
