thought it was just an old 70s camera being sold at a stupid price .. but then i scrolled down! :isadizzy:

You had me at Leica...

Based on the specs I'd absolutely LOVE to have one of these. This is about a near to ideal as I think you can get!

Except for the price!

a lot of people buy very high-end cameras but uses maybe 5% of what it can do. I'm guilty myself :p For some weird reason, people (myself included), like to buy the best of the best when it comes to cameras. But unless used correctly, a 100$ camera vs a $10,000 camera does the same thing in the hands of the average user.

Case in point: I've had a few high-end cameras over the years, and used them casually. Recently, a pro-photographer friend of mine borrowed one of my cameras since he forget his. When i saw the pics he took w/ them...i was blown away!! "This was taken with my camera and my lens???" It looked like magazine shots....super nice focus, colors, exposure....etc. Just shows you that the tool is only as good as the person using it. :p

Yes, this is a correct statement. I recently came across Ken Rockwell's website, and he will even tell you that you can do very, very well with a Nikon D40, which is his favorite "grab-off-the-counter" camera for almost all shots. Even using an inexpensive (relatively anyway) Nikor lens. He has many many shots of his young son, all taken with the D40. There is really no need for expensive equipment, but then again, we can all dream, eh??:jump:
 
Great camera! Way too much for most people though. Most folks will take worse pictures with something like that, they are better off with a point and shoot model.
 
I've had several high-end cameras over the years. A spendy venture for the average user. Considering I didn't use them that much, and I got tired of lugging all the equipment around, I started doing some research for the best rated digital point-n-shoot. After about a month of reading hundreds and hundreds of reviews on MANY cameras, I made my choice.

I recently picked up a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Great camera for the everyday user. I'm VERY happy with it.

Here's an example of the beauty in my gardens.

...If I'm not mistaken,....Leica was going through some hard times awhile ago. From being considered too overpriced to not staying advanced in today's camera technologies. Is that still the case, and are they beginning to turn it around?

Yup they made a few bad decisions
But the M9 seems to be a good deal
and i would think that Leica fans
would be buying them big time

My $3,000, full frame, 21MP, Canon 5DII suits me just fine.
Canon's glass is excellent and the way my eyes are going.......forget manual focus ! $6,000 for that Leica ?? No thanks! :isadizzy:

I have to disagree a bit here....:kilroy:

Yes the D40 is a very capable in-expensive DSLR camera :) but if you're looking to shoot a lot of high ISO shots, or a lot of motion, then the D40 isn't the best choice....:kilroy:
