The Hunt For Nose Art...

sc7500

SOH-CM-2013
Penn's request for a better image of "Near Miss" led me to spend a few hours researching this beloved artform. Sadly, I was unable to find a single example of the Near Miss painting.

If you're interested in developing a collection of authentic nose art for your planes, or are just interested in what they are and how they became legend, have a look at just 3 of hundreds of websites dedicated to aircraft art:

I spent about 3 hours digging last night and saw hundreds of pieces of Nose Art. There's a ton of it out there and as you say it's a great artform.
They had some really creative and artistic guys out there. If you've got some time one night just go to Google Images and type in Nose Art.... and start enjoying...

That's exactly where I found the image I posted. Unfortunatly I haven't found one big enough so it hasn't lost all of the detail.... :(

I haven't given up and I'm doing my level best to PSP it into shape.... We'll see.

The rub with this aircraft is that she only had the Nose Art on the Right side. I've got a great Painting of her but it shows only the Left side. The only art work on the left side is the name "Hilda" on the engine cowel..... Go Figure...

Thanks Rav.

That's a bit smaller than the one I have from the Squadron Review of the Dragons, Tigers and Girls...Oh My decal sheet. BUT the contrast between the bomb and the dark blue background does look better...... I may have to cut this all apart and create a new one from the best parts.

Of course I would have to pick the smallest one of the bunch to work with. LOL
