The Iowa Beaut

SOH-CM-2023
With Johns pictures of the updated P-51B included in the new Mustang collection it did not take long before I had bought the new package... Great to see the B model Mustang brought up to the same detail level as his latest D's.

A repaint I did for the first release, but a quick rework and the textures work on the new model; North American P-51B Mustang "The Iowa Beaut" WR-P, of the 354th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group, Steeple Morden 1944.

For me this is the best mustang variant and certainly the one I find looks the best, Ill be downloading these textures fantastic job!

Thank you JensOle!

Have you played at all with the spec maps for this newer model? If you look at the spec maps (and base textures) for "Princess Elizabeth" that comes with that boxed set, they are setup the same as my P-51D work, allowing for the latest metal look/effect.

Yes, WR-P should use the same spec mapes as P-Elizabeth. The metal shades are not that visible in some of the screenshots.

Gorgeous paint... getting the DX10 missing texture blue patterns on the interior instruments though...

Jan,

It is not just the textures, the model tself is highly reworked to bring it up to the same standard as the latest warbirdsim P-51D's.
I believe the new model is currently just available in the "Mustang collection".

When the Flightstore product came up, we had about two month's time to put together only a selection of aircraft that was desired to be included from each of Warbirdsim's main FSX products. Having been provided that amount of time to work on it, I went through each of the aircraft selected and revised everything that was needed to bring each aircraft up to the same number of features and latest details (this was one of the points that was raised), so that they all meshed together on an even playing field. For the P-51B/C's, they aren't fully updated to the standard of the "D's", but given the time we had, I changed out items that I could with newer items from my work on the "D's", such as the prop blades, exhaust, landing gear, pilot, drop tanks, materials (added specular maps), gun sight reticule, and I built some new bomb racks (P-51B/C type). Only the aircraft selected for this product were worked on, so all of the rest from each main product that didn't get incorporated have not received that attention (for instance, there are only four P-51B/C's included). As much as I would like to offer the same updates for all who have previous Warbirdsim P-51B/C products, it just would be out of disrespect to Flightstore to do so (at least in my belief), which has gone to such lengths to produce these boxed sets. I'll be the first to say that the product isn't for everyone (especially if you already have a hangar full of Mustangs, with a majority of those already covered by this Flightstore product), but it is what is, available to anyone who it might suit/interest.

Barfly, is this with all of the B/C's you have, or just with this repaint? If just with this repaint, it would very likely be that the panel folder for which it is trying to call up via the Aircraft.cfg entry is non-existent, and you just have to re-assign the panel folder entry in the Aircraft.cfg file for this repaint to one of the panel folders that does exist.

OK John, thanks for the info. I sometimes lose track of all the different warbirdsim packages, but would of course have been interested in an update for the B.
