The "NEXT" P-40??

Yes...

It could be great if anyone who handles Gmax as whispering can upgrade this cockpit model !
Specially for the MAW fanatics...

:wavey:

Dont think it would be accurate, but I'd like to see a nice one with D-Day stripes.
(Just something about those stripes!)

Mmmm...

Sorry but I think you won't be historically accurate with a DDay stripped P-40...
I could be wrong but for instance I have never heard about a P40 in Europe still remaining in June 1944 that takes part to Overlord.

Cheers :wavey:

I like the P-40's from PTO and specially from MAW, although I think there are not enough british skins in this last one. The cockpits are quite well conceived, in my opinon...
The AvH series with the "300" for PTO and the "Flying Tigers" are very good.

That's true.

The P40 never took part in ETO operations. The only fighters engaged by USAAF in ETO were Spitfire, P38, P47 and P51.

RAF P40's were only engaged in the MTO.

I brought up the stripes because recently I went to "Hobby Lobby" to purchase some
1:72 scale planes for my room collection. I always end up fighting with myself when I'm
trying to choose between only 2. They had only a few left, and was trying to decide on
three of them. A Japanese zero,(didnt have a Jap plane) a P-51 Mustang,(no collection
is complete without that one) and a BEAUTIFUL P-47 with the D-Day stripes!

...I ended up getting all three and there went 50$.

NO P-40's were used in Europe?? (1944)
That is news to me..
I realize by 1944 the P47, P-51 were the main USAAF aircraft used in europe. .
THANK GOD for them..

But I am surprised at the statement of no P-40's USAAF in europe in '44..

Several interveiws from german pilots I have seen ..( 42, 43, 44) the germans spoke very Highly of the P-40..
Many stating it was as Good if not Better then their Me 109's and fw 190's.
With the right pilot they were great birds accorrding to the german Pilots I have see speak of them
Yes, against the Zero they were outclassed..('41, '42,'43)
But again.. Thank God, Germany didn't Have the Zero too. The Battle of Britiain would have been the "Lost Battle of Britain"..
And alot of you over there might still be teaching German in your schools..

Thank God it didn't go that way..
I am surprised to hear that the P-40 wasn't in Europe 1944??

The P-40 lacked high-altitude performance and was used more for ground-attack roles afaik, hence its continued use in the Med, Middle East and Far East theatres where high-altitude performance was less important.

It was also agile and relatively cheap compared to Spits and Mustangs and easier to maintain, so better suited to these roles.

No P40's in ETO at all, whatever the year.

Many stating it was as Good if not Better then their Me 109's and fw 190's.
No, the P40 was outclassed by the Fw190 and the 109 was slightly better.

No, there is no reason that history would have been different if they have used a different fighter.

The Zero was somewhat over-rated. If you look at some of the junk it flew against at the start of the Pacific War when it established its reputation, then you can see why it was regarded with such awe. It did have very high qualities - it was highly manoeuvrable, light and well armed with two 20mm cannon - and compared to the rubbish in Allied service at the time, it was modern and extremely effective. Its weak point was however that in order to be that agile, it had kept its weight down by using no armour at all, in the early version at least.

The rubbish in question were things like the Buffalo and the P-35 for example. I think that says about all that needs to be said! The P-40 Hawk did not meet the Zero in combat at this time, except briefly over Pearl Harbor - Hawks were deployed to China, not in the Pacific. That came later...

In any case, it would certainly not have changed the course of the Battle of Britain! Although it did have better range than the Bf109...

To come back onto the topic, I'd love to see new a Tomahawk and a new Kittyhawk; the ones we have are fine, but there has been such progress since then... But I think our modellers have enough to keep them busy for the next few years, so I'm not saying anything more. Let us simply be grateful - as we all are! - for what we get, whatever it is. And I for one know a fair bit about what it entails, for having worked with Viso on all those French aircraft. It's a hell of a job, believe me.

It was also agile and relatively cheap compared to Spits and Mustangs and easier to maintain, so better suited to these roles.

Don't forget that at this time, "Mustang" meant the MkI and II with ... the same engine as the Kittyhawk, and the same lack of high altitude ability. The Merlin-engined MkIII only hit the streets in late 1943, by which time the Kittyhawk's career was clearly drawing to an end.

Wyld45, did I send you the P-40 I'm working on???
I thought I did but maybe not.
I too love that bird but HATE the way it flys....

No sir I dont believe I have one of yours. Since I havent advanced beyond the basic
theatre, of course I dont get to experience the better models that were mentioned like in
MAW and such.

What I would like to see mainly for the basic CFS3 is a more appealing cockpit with more
spherical shaping in the canopy,(not so polygonic) with a sharper instrument panel. Kind of
like the cockpit in "Regs" Wildcat.

I hear you on the performance issue, its really tough to use in my "London Blitz". Its a really
good mission to test fighter performance. Maybe one day someone will suprise us.

Cockpit

... Of course I dont have to tell many of you that the cockpit in "Judy Pay's" P-40
is a modernized type.
