The old alphasim store ( not current store)

Hey guys

has anyone who bought stuff from the old "alphasim store" (not the current Virtavia) been able to access new download links at the new store?

reasons why I ask is there's a new addon for the b24 with 2 new models,
Virtavia have now released an expansion pack for the FSX version of their B-24 Liberator package. The expansion adds two new models and and their liveries for the C-87 Liberator Express Transport and the C-109 Tanker.

Please note – This is NOT an essential patch or fix of any kind, it is merely a free package for existing owners containing two new models with their textures which supplements the existing FSX B-24 package. The file is a .msi and when run, will add the new model files and overwrite the aircraft.cfg file.

but since I got the b24 from the old store I can't access any links as when they closed it, my account was closed with it

Since then I haven't be able to access any of the dozens of files I bought from them

Is anyone else in that same boat? and what have you done to get access

i really would like to check out the new b24 cargo and tanker models with the new update and get another copy of the h60

You might try contacting Phil with you old order info: date, order number, product, etc.
:ernae:

thats the only problem

it was several yrs ago when they first came out, I have no idea except what i ordered, since then i have a new credit card, new email addresses and i have a better chance of winning lotto then remembering the date let alone the order number prior to 2010 when i lost all my emails when i lost my HD

its not the first time my order history has been deleted from them

i rest my case frank

after buying several products, it seems too hard to look on their end again, this what happened the last im they wiped my details

we don’t have any records of AlphaSim purchases any more and rely on proof of purchase for replacements. You may find that many of your models are now available in the Virtavia free section.

Phil,
Virtavia Support

this was the same reply i got last time, it wasnt until Dan did a search and found all my details later on, i have no chance now since he has gone after the split

any tips Frank since apparently i never have bought any thing from them since 2003

anyone else had this problem with pre 2008 purchases from the old alphasim store, not the new Virtavia store

dont worry frank, it will be a waste of time

Phil made it clear in another reply

Virtavia is also not obliged to look after AlphaSim customers from years ago, but we do what we can for tech support, even for people who bought something 5 years ago, that’s just because I want to help, not because I have to. There are not many companies who support ‘legacy’ software more than a year or two. Perhaps the time has come for you to re-purchase your favourites from Virtavia and enjoy the storage backup provided by an established vendor, as well as possible free expansions such as the one we have just put out for the B-24. That is not available to AlphaSim customers of that model and this will be true for future expansions. We think it’s time people cut loose from that era and continue as Virtavia customers, and that’s not just for greedy profit reasons (god knows there’s not much of that in FS) it’s for efficiency and brand clarity.

Matt - To respond directly to your question...yes, I have an alphasim product (LongEZ) and the link isn't working. Other than that, I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you.

Because I've spent so much money and effort on FSX add-ons (scenery, aircraft and other stuff), I've been trying to get current D/L files and place those files on a local drive. Time consuming (I've spent about 3 days on it in the recent past), but will avoid future issues when developers go "kaput".

On another thread you mentioned another vendor and I have to say I agree with you. In this small community, we all pretty well know which vendors can be relied upon and which can not. The actions of the few really good ones speak volumes while the rhetoric of the few not so good is simply that - rhetoric.

Just to reinforce my "new" method - some vendors unreliable so all D/Ls, P/Ws, receipts, etc., etc., backed up on local drive(s). It would be useful to have a way to address the unreliable vendors.

Thanks for the heads-up on the expansion pack, sadly the FS Pilot shop wants me to pay $5 to reactivate the download link to get a free add-on.. :isadizzy:

I have the same issue. I bought the Liberator from Alphasim and even have the e-mail receipt but where to download. I've received an e-mail from The Flightsimstore.com (the must have the purchaser list) and I presume they want me to pay $5.00 to download this add-on but I cant find a relevant link on their site.

i must say i kind of agree with phil here,IF the new purchase from virtravia will be a better product that the old alpha sim product was, thats not to say the alpha sim products were bad..i have many of them and love them..but if theyve gone to the truble to update the B-24,and you cant find your info ect ,well maybe you best just bite the bullet and buy the newer version....just MY opinion..wrong or right....its mine

At the FS Pilot shop (http://www.fspilotshop.com/) I would need to redownload the entire file, there's no seperate add-on pack by the look of things.
Somewhat disappointing, there must have been an easier way to distribute it..?

Dave,
The model Ferry and I have is the updated, native FsX version and the add-on pack we're talking about is an enhancement to the original FsX version. I bought mine just before Alphasim became Virtavia which means I can't get a download as the Alphasim store is closed. If I'd bought it later then I might have used Flightsimstore.com and then I could get the update by simply downloading it again. It was a mistake to have bought it directly from Alphasim!

I'm in the same situation, bought directly from Alpha. I don't understand why it just can't be offered up somewhere as a free expansion. It does no good to anyone who has not already bought the B-24, so why the need for proof of purchase. I still buy Virtavia planes and feel it would go a long way toward my continued goodwill for that company to solve this situation. (But I won't hold my breath.)

Thats right, the remaining payware from the alphasim days are the same products that virtavia are selling today. with the exception of the latest few

"We think it’s time people cut loose from that era and continue as Virtavia customers, and that’s not just for greedy profit reasons (god knows there’s not much of that in FS) it’s for efficiency and brand clarity."
to me it does appear to be greedy, as we need to re purchase all the pre 2009 packages if you bought them form Phil's old alphasim store just to get these new updates when they come out, its not just a bit of a slap in the face IMHO but a kick to the ground and steal your wallet as we all know theyre not the most moderately priced addons to say the least

sadly there are people out there that will spend twice the amount of money for the same product and wont know any better, me, no way!

at least i know where the user stands with them now

i understand roger...all the ones i have are the FSX units as well...atleast i downloaded them off the alphasim website as FSX models...dont think we were calling them FSX native then..but if i were still flying 4 engined A/C..id pay the 5 bucks to get the update....all i was saying in my previous post..and this one is what I would do..not what you or anyone else should do...

Well, the extra $5 aren't Virtavia's fault, and I'll just have to think twice before buying from the Fs pilot shop again. Never had to pay extra at Simmarket, Flightsimstore, PC Aviator or any other vendor to redownload something.. Nice looking models though!

I think this should be used as an object lesson for ALL purchasers from ALL vendors, just backup ALL your original downloads and PRINT all your purchase details and file them away as hard copies.

For me this seemed to be a sensible insurance policy, and all my details going back to 2003 are filed, as things have turned out I've needed to refer back to the files on several occasions.
A vendor can't really argue the point if one has a dispute and presents them with all the relevant information.

I transferred all my DVD backups onto a new external HD once the price of a 1TB drive dropped below A$100.00, and that is all that I use this drive for.
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, and while 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing, when a business changes hands or merges they will make a judgement call (rightly or wrong from a customer viewpoint) on how 'their business model' will operate.

A prolific vendor simply cannot (and will not) retain legacy support for everything, so the best solution is the one we implement off our own initiative.

Agreed..
At least virtavia/alphasim has allowed much of their legacy product to pass off into public domain where like with other legacy products like the model A ford or Model T, they can be lovingly cared for by the general populace.
I truly wish more vendors did that, but for the most part, one a product passes away, its gone for good with the vendors crying Mine mine mine mine mine like a psychotic daffy duck all the way to their own demise..
gods i'm morose this morning.. must be the board meeting i have later..

I have everything backed-up. But the Alphasim store no longer exists. Thus the only option is to obtain the update through another source from whom I did not purchase the product. In addition to make the new models function in my Alphasim aircraft folder, every piece of text mentioning Virtavia had to be changed to read ALPHA including mdl names and the mdl.cfg. It's working now and I'm happy to have the update.

spot on roger

thats not the problem wombat i have 10 out of my 11 purchase backed up

the problem is that virtavia are not honoring the alpahsim store purchases for the same product listed at their new site

, the problem here is that in order to get the b24 add on, you have to have had purchased it post 2009 and or from another vendor and under the virtavia brand, for the rest of us who bought from the old store, we get a kick to the crouch... and no addon

in one of the emails phil sent me, they are planning to update more releases, but unless you purchased it post 2009 or from another vendor, you will not be recognized and will not receive the new updates

like phil said, he wants to cut ties with the alpahasim brand, for us, we are no bodies unless we go repurchase all the products that are now listed as virtavia
