The on again-off again MV-22 Osprey

Sbob

SOH-CM-2025
While searching for other stuff, I ran across this at FS.com:

This is a really nice set of repaints for the Virttavia MV-22 by Luca De Battista . :eagerness:
What got my interest are the two CMV-22B COD replacements for Navy flying.
While the Osprey fleet was grounded earlier, they have been coming back quietly after fixes came out for the transmissions and are due to get back to work in 2026.
Besides having actual, real world Ospreys for all of the Marine squadrons, the standouts in this set are two Navy CODs (VRM-30 Det 1 and 5 based at NAS North Island and MCAS Iwakuni, callsign for both is TITAN) and a USAF Osprey from the 7th S.O.S. currently based at RAF Mildenhall, callsign TALON along with one version of the current(?) MARINE ONE. I already have the TITAN callsign installed and attached to this thread and will be knocking out the rest of the callsigns for the Ospreys in the set plus some updated texture files for the (spinning) rotor blades. :wiggle:

Barengredt's gauge is a must for this aircraft, it's actually fun to fly then. I made a wide screen 2D panel for mine (stitched together from parts of the default panel and a couple of photos)

Had so many liveries I finally pared the list down to four - USCG, USMC, JSDF, and this fictional West German aircraft

(though I might make a fictional NASA livery)

Now you show me more liveries, lol.

(Excuse those images, FS2004 had a "senior moment" and spent an eternity rebuilding scenery indices, creating scenery databases, and autower rebuilding its database ....only to now have blurry scenery again. And nothing had been changed since the last time i ran it. The wonderful world of Micro$oft.)

Those prop disks still need help. :indecisiveness:

I came up with some higher viz prop blades and disks back when it made sense, red and white painted tips.

The stock all-black blades still don't want to play nice with the alpha channel I used. :unsure:
But, I'm working on it. :wiggle:

Here's some texture updates I've played with. :wiggle:
Just add the PROP and BLADES textures to see the better (IMO) alpha channel.
These are what I call "high viz" blades, they may or may not be totally accurate but make sense for stuff like carrier ops.
I also included the CREW texture with a darker uniform.
I also have an all-orange flight suit for your German Osprey if you want it.

Just add these textures to one of your folders and see how you like them. :eagerness:

Also make sure your aircraft.cfg entries look like this:
texture=camo
prop_anim_ratio=1.65

Well, that was cool. :wiggle:
I haven't loaded up the Osprey in a while, but I wanted to properly christen the VRW-30 DET5 texture with a nice flight as "Titan Seven Two".
I have a "private stock" USS Nimitz sitting about 200 miles south east of Iwakuni so I took off at dawn with some live weather loaded.
Got "feet wet" and finally figured out how to run the auto pilot. Climbed to 12,000 feet and set course for a carrier landing. :loyal:

This puppy does alright. I used my ACS-GPS mod to get close to the Nimitz and got down to 1,500-2,000 feet to get in the pattern about 10 miles behind the ship. Dialed up the radios and requested a landing. I was sharing the "stack" with an AI EA-6B Prowler and got "dibbs" on landing first.
The Prowler crew knew the score. I was carrying mail, fresh milk, and produce and they treated me like an Admiral. 😁

As far as landing this thing as a COD, don't treat it like a helo. Its more of an "extreme STOL" airplane. I came in to land with the engines tilted to about 45 degrees and managed to stay On The Ball and planted it just forward of the arresting cables at about 40 kts then hit the spoilers. It was a nice, calm roll out considering the 10 kt cross wind across the deck. I forgot that I had "doctored" the AI Prowler and they got a nice Three Wire about five minutes after I had taxied over to the island then parked up in their spot.

So, it was a nice hour-and-a-half flight and the landing was deceptively easy. :wiggle:
Will the Osprey become a daily driver? I don't know, I enjoy flying the Hornet too much but this thing is no slouch. I defiantly need some more time in the pattern and you really don't have enough time to play around in a hover.
