Time for a floater...

I have it as the Levy-Besson Alerte of 1917, but also found reference to the Besson LB with what looked like the same airplane.

Not going to split hairs here so a brew. :very_drunk:

(If anyone wants to clear the title even more, please feel free)

Over to Chris.

Morning chaps - please excuse a wee intervention . We're in the murky realms of French appellations here, but naturally, being a floater, I'm interested.

As far as I can see, Besson designed his triplane in 1916, but didn't have the financial clout for bulk production, so went to Georges Levy for backing.

Moses' machine differs from the later production LB's in a couple of respects - the nose shape is different, as is the cowling for the Hispano engine. It also has a longer central wing, and this marks it as one of the earlier models - the only photo I can find which matches is of #11.

There are lots of variations of hull shapes, strut conformation, etc, but, as I said, it was France !

Now I know there are some here who just love pushers, especially twin-booms, and the grainier the better....

This one fits the bill -

Only flying shots I've seen were about ten feet off the ground - don't think it got much higher ! I think the message is - keep it simple......

A Westland Wessex / Westland IV Limousine

The first Westland IV with ADC Cirrus III engines (G-EBXK), perhaps.

I was also considering the Budig airplane but I ran into considerable doubts because of the many differences in detail. Lefty's image also looked more like a mock-up or a model than a real airplane.

However, after Moses03’s reply I consulted Lange: "Typenhandbuch der deutschen Luftfahrttechnik" and read that the plane was modified with a V-tail at the rear “the first of its kind!”.

Could you, lefty, please reveal your source of the picture?

Yes, Gx, I think this looks like a model too - if so, apologies, but there were , as far as I can see, several modifications made to what was originally a glider, but the general structure is the same, and, crucially, it did fly !

The photo came from a journal which, if you don't mind, I shall not name - there are more goodies in it which I an keeping for later !

I think this is the wrong attitude. :blue:

Keeping information back is never good. One day you will die and your knowledge will be lost.

:icon29: for gX on the Westland IV prototype.

No need to get upset about the source material. This is all in fun.

It's OK - I'm thick-skinned. The question of knowledge has come up before, and I have been chastised for my antiquated mores. 'Learning is irrelevant - everything is available at the touch of a key...'

Glad to say that I shallcontinue as before, browsing through the many sources acquired over the years, and eventually (no immediate plans!) shuffle off to the Great Lounge Bar in the Sky with a smile on my face.

In the meantime, my tongue can always be loosened by a wee refreshment...............:very_drunk: Pity the Schwarzwald is so far away.
