It is the Barker B-2, originally built as a parasol with an open-cockpit.

Here is a plane of similar configuration.

The aircraft is not a one-off.
It has its origins in the US but wasn't built there.

About a dozen of this type of aircraft were built, originally with a 5-cylinder LeBlond radial.
The aircraft in the picture has been restored to flying condition in the shown configuration.
It is at the moment the only one which is airworthy though at least one more is being restored as well.

I hadn't thought that this mystery would be so difficult.

The type was built in northern Europe and is a copy of an American aircraft. It is mentioned in aerofiles in the article about the original type.

It is the GV-38, a Swedish copy of the Rearwin Sportster. The SE-AHG from the picture is now in flying condition.
I would have thought that some of you might have come across this plane.

Thanks Robert. I think that, like some others here, my eyes glaze over when yet another of the 10,000 Piper clones turns up !

However your clues were sufficient for this tartan detective to work out LeBlond > Rearwin > Götaverken. Although convinced myself at one stage that this was a Taylorcraft paint job, and an obscure prototype !

Mike, just to satisfy my curiosity, how do you manage to type a German (or Swedish) "ö" with a Scottish keyboard?

Control Panel/Language + then choose to add a language to the list. There are hundreds to choose from.

I use a virtual keyboard (mine comes with Kaspersky) and when you hit Windows key and space, the list of languages comes up !

The secret is to revert to, in my case, the English keyboard when you are finished, or you get into a terrible mess........

Lefty's latest reminds me of the Hosler Fury but the gear is different. There is a host of similar racers to troll through.

Indeed, similar to the Hosler, (and also Midwest) but this builder is much better known, producing a dozen or so designs from the Thirties to the Eighties. Sadly met his end in one of the later ones......

Kind of a shot in the dark on my lunch hour here, but maybe the original Wittman Bonzo? Except that Wittman made designs into the 1950's though.

It is the Bonzo. According to you-know-where, Wittman produced his last design in 1986, in which he and his wife crashed fatally in '95.
