The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

:icon29: Perseverance pays. An English Electric Ayr it is - even if that does sound like a tumble dryer. :costumes:

I was getting a bit thirsty, so needed the beer:ernae:
Going back in time for this pusher.

Think this is one of those Farman copies - it is all MF11 at the back but the nacelle and engine are wrong. Hmm, no time to look up - off to a party so that's Lefty bombed out till tomorrow !:friday:

I hope you remember enjoying yourself at the party, I will try to type quietly tomorrow.

I have to admit that I know absolutely nothing about this machine, except what it is called and where the country of origin.

It is not a Farman, nor is it French or British. Whether it is has Farman ancestry I don't know, but doubt it.

Way to generic to pinpoint; every designer had the same solutions in the early days of WW1: more wings, more rudders and the engine in the back to stop the gunner from shooting of the propeller.

Moses, where art thou in our hour of need ??? (Too busy flying around the world methinks)

Still think it's got lots of Farman bits but I have checked Russian, Japanese, etc etc so maybe it's a Yank.

The pic looks very like a plastic model.............................maybe it's a Sandar Mk I :icon_lol:

I suppose,as it is getting towards the season of goodwill, I ought to drop a hint or two.

As already mentioned, it is not French or British, neither is it Russian or American. So that narrows it down a bit:costumes:. I found the picture on the web, but apart from the name and country of origin, I know nothing about it, nor can I find anything about it, even knowing the name (in two languages).

What I will say is, think east (sort of).

PS, Lefty, how's the head? swimming in the water of life?

What do you mean, you have felt better, or have had better hangovers?:friday::ernae:

Last weekend at my father in law's 80th birthday bash, I had one beer (pint of Bishops finger) before a meal Friday evening and a couple of glasses of red wine with lunch on Saturday with catastrophic effect. My medication and booze just don't mix. Suffice to say I became intimately acquainted with the floor, acquired a large bruise on the right cheek (face) and a golf ball sized lump on my shin, no idea what caused either. I was out cold for a couple of minutes and nothing to do with being drunk.

Next time I have a glass of something, I will fore-go the medication.

Today's been a good quiet day - Christmas tree up (all the lights worked first time :applause:), cooked a Sunday nosh (braised lamb shanks) entertained the neighbours (gin & tonics) and am settling down to watch Chris Hoy being unjustly outvoted by the dastardly English in Sports Personality of the Year.

Maybe not, but then again there's good news - the Scottish rink retained the European Curling Championship in Sweden* - even without me !!! :costumes:

Still waiting for Moses to put us out of our misery or you're going to have to reveal all, dear boy.

Sorry to hear about your fall from grace. A hard one to bear, that.

*Talking of Sweden, going to watch 'Wallander' again - great series.

Lefty, are you Doctor Who in disguise? Your last post was edited 3 years and 3 months before you posted it and by someone else:isadizzy:

I think even Moses will have a hard time identifying this one. I think I will tell all that it is the extremely well known (well it was to the builder), b:censored:er it, I've forgotten what it is:costumes:, Oh yeah, it is the Gang Che Yi How from China, which apparantly means Gun Vehicle Number 1.

Yes an easy one compared to the China Bipe! Vickers Type 432 or "Tin Mossie".

Was away all day yesterday and this morning. I did have a look at Chinese aircraft and thought I had a hit (see attached). Maybe Sandar's is the one they called "home-made"? :icon_lol:

It certainly looks like it just might be the Gang Che Yi How, Moses, perhaps I was a bit too quick to name it. Nevertheless, I think the research deseves a:icon29: and a second :icon29: for the Vickers 432.

May I humbly point out that the Gang Che Yi How is apparently better known as the Caudron G-III? Not that I've ever seen a pusher version, except here - however, I think we can safely say that it must have been some sort of foreign import at that time!

Curious that a Caudron was not mentioned. I searched for information on the Gang Che Yi How, but found nothing.
On closer inspection, I am not too sure it is the same machine, the tailplane looks different, although difficult to be sure, but the gunner is right in the front of the nose my picture and is missing in the plan view. The wing tips are also different, tapered in the photo and more or less squared in the diagram.
Good find though Ralf

I tell you it's a Farman clone - look at the tail units, rear 'fuselage' wing bracing, everything except nacelle & engine !!!
(By the way, apologies to the dastradly English - they did vote for Hoy !!)
