The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

Well this pic appeared in several editions of Janes as the Tachihi R-53.

I agree with you about the tail and can find no other pics with the oddly-shaped version.

Think we need a Japanese expert here. In the meantime, :icon29: to Wout......

Hi Mike,
I like these surprises. Never knew about the tail modification. After some Googling found a picView attachment 51048 from a different angle.
Registration JA13070 proofs it is the same aircraft.
Next challenge will follow a.s.a.p.

Sorry the plane is naked, but found picture funny. It looks much nicer fully dressed.
Quite few were built, both factory and homebuilt (kits).

being inebriated has often caused nakedness, but in this case, it is just a name..

Aye, it is lad! :icon29::guinness:

Information is scarce on this one. According to one iffy source, it was powered by a Renault 4P...

If Lefty can't unearth it I think it's time to reveal. This is the Bloch MB.170. It was based on the MB.81 ambulance plane. There is another MB.170 which is a twin engine bomber but apparently this one had the same designation? Not sure of the year, possibly 1937.

Anyhoo, moving on with a streamlined float plane...
