I just watched the DVD of HBO's The Pacific and really thought that it did a good job of paying tribute and honor to those who were there. I can't wait to get a copy of Helmet For My Pillow.:salute:
 
I just got the Blu-Rays yesterday. Watched them on TV too, what a great job they did. Helmet for my Pillow is a good read, so is Islands of the Damned, by R. V. Burgin, Sledge's mortar squad leader in the series. Of course Sledge's With the Old Breed is a classic.

The Pacific's score is also out on CD - I highly recommend it - it's a great soundtrack for flying around our virtual Pacific!
 
Just got the DVD of "The Pacific" in the mail yesterday and just finished "Islands of the Damned" last week. I'm looking forward to finding some time to watch the DVD between work and hunting trips.

I read "Helmet for my Pillow" and With the "Old Breed" many years ago. I should re-read them as I'm sure that after all these years they would be like reading them for the first time again.
