Fred Sanders wrote me this morning. I'd asked him what squadrons he'd been assigned to.

"Training at NAS Meridian I was in VT-9 and VT-19, flying the T2-C and TA-4J. Carrier qual'd on the Lexington in both squadrons. The Replacement Air Group (RAG) was VA-174 at Cecil Field. Fleet squadron was VA-46, the "Clansmen", Cecil Field on USS JFK and USS Eisenhower. Last tour was instructor in VT-2, Whiting Field, FL, flying the T34-C. "

Awesome thanks, I also did carquals on the Lexington with VA37, it was like stepping back in time, wooden flight deck, T28s buzzing around, being on a ww2 carrier was like being part of history. The sleeping compartments were aweful, no a/c so we slept on deck as much as possible.
VA174 Razorbacks were the training squadron at cecil, went over with them for a week for plane captian school.
I went to cat school in lakehurst then to the Kennedy, worked waist cats 73-75 and 46 and 72 were the A7 squadrons so if he was there then more than likely I shot him off the deck.
 
I was ships company on the Lexington from 76 to 78. Being in A-gang, we had a/c in our berthing ;)
 
Yes, for the most part, ships company usually had it better than squadron personnel. When I was on the Sara, I made friends with some guys who worked in a computer equipment shop. It had to be the coldest space on the ship. One 100+ degree days, those guys were wearing coats.....

I was on the Sara the first time for only one week. I was with the maintenance team that accompanied the ACLS Certification crew from Pax River, in late 1973. I didn't see the Sara again until 1990, when I was with VFA-83, and did one cruise on her.
