"The 'Tear"

Some rough recent screens (just some cropping), rocketing around using one of Bob Rivera's envmaps, having too much fun enjoying what I am fortunate enough to be involved with.

John,

Great shots John. I just finished a few circuits of KPWT Bremerton in the Tear. Was doing great until I did the last landing with the gear up. (dumb-dumb-dumb) I guess I better get out the check list. grin

where can we get the ENVMAP you are using...I'd like to give it a shot. I used to have one for FS9 but can't find it.

I use Bob's FSX "globalenv_texturesv1.zip" set available at Avsim.
It seems to be a little better(to me) than his original "alternate_globalenvtest.zip"
His "envmap_replacement_fs9.zip" is available there also.

Whatever you are using John, it looks fantastic!...Don

Don, that is indeed the one being used in this case (globalenv_texturesv1.zip from Avsim). The only reason I came to use it recently, is because the recently released Fantasy of Flight scenery by Dimus utlizes it to great advantage with the window textures, to amazing effect.

And Tom, that is great to hear! I love flying out of Bremerton. For me, when landing, there is always a certain process to it, to be followed every time. I learned a process years ago, through what Stallion 51 and a few others teach. As you are rolling out from the overhead break into downwind, the flaps should be coming down to 20-degrees, or half flaps, with the prop coming up to 2700 RPM. On downwind, you wait until you are abeam the threshold and then you put the gear down. (At 170 mph or lower, which is max gear extension speed, you can also open the canopy safely, if you want to land with the canopy open). As you are on base you put the remaining amount of flap in. I usually fly one big arc from downwind to the runway, while at other times I do square it up.

Live Fire

I just wanted to pass along, that the Fagen Fighters guys have put up video of "Twilight Tear" firing its six .50-cal machine guns, from last summer. Whether you are a Facebook member or not, you should still be able to see it (note the recoil from all six 50's firing at the same time): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150947251111610&set=vb.396452487077668&type=2&theater

Also, the aircraft is the bases of a great new documentary, yet to be released. The official trailer can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=418125114906266
