The Thorp has been uploaded!

Hi OleBoy
I'm fascinated by your work and your enthusiasm in doing it !!
I'm tempted to try myself in painting some texture, but I don t have a clue where to start
What do you suggest I should begin with ??
Thanks
Italo

Well thank you.

As for where to start your learning? UHHHHH :kilroy:

I've almost got this dang checkers math beat. A bit more to go :applause:

I appreciate that those who have responded to this very lengthy topic on behalf of my work, but lets not forget the man doing the magic. Here we have a member here that has devoted a lot of time bringing this model to everyone. Freeware at that. If it wasn't for Robert, my repaints would be taking a lot longer than they have been. Every time I find a flaw, he fixes it. So I can make my paints perfect.

.....From the day I met Robert he has shared with me his knowledge, and his real life. We became friends. Something that is very rare to happen on the www. He has shared with me, things that have taken him literally years to perfect. Upon which I have gained knowledge, and experience in my painting skills.
....I'm not trying to brag myself up to anyone, because it shows in my work. Because of Robert's work.

So anyone who has taken the time to follow this thread, that hasn't replied, should. This Thorp T-18 is an excellent model!! The lack of response to anyone's work is appalling all the way around.

My apologies, but I had to get that off my chest. This has been eating at me since the Thorp was released.

You'll find me in the paint booth. I got Thorps to paint!! :running:

Actually, you guys have been pretty gracious in commenting on it. :salute:

On the bigger sites I think over time it might be discovered by more folks, but I don't tend to post much at them anymore for various reasons, so I just did the uploads and left it at that. I figure at least it's getting downloaded and working okay. When it has a problem for someone...that's when you start getting feedback! :icon_lol:

There's a reason I "live" here. :wiggle:

Something weird with the spinner. I've deleted the old model and textures and reinstalled the new model and repaints. This seems to be a common issue with all the repaints. Any ideas?

Wow Roger, not sure what is happening there. I moved my current Thorp folder out of FSX and downloaded the Thorp & that paint and it looks normal here. I note that your roll bar seems to have the same issue...what do the rest of the chrome bits look like?

I'm not sure what parts are chrome now. It may be something specific to my system so if no one else has the issue I can always go back to the original version:costum:

Roger, I was going to say similar to what Robert has. I'm thinking it has to do with the GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome, RKEnv, and the RKEnvOLD files somehow. Robert had to adjust some things. So maybe this will give an to him an idea as to what's causing it.

Roger, did you totally start from scratch? If so it's not an issue with my env maps as I ditched them on the new upload.

There is a service pack being worked on. OleBoy found a few more mapping & model issues last week that have been corrected. For the paints he's currently working on they would have really stood out. The good news is that there won't be a problem using existing paints with it. I have also been going over the model and correcting as I go. This will be out in a week or so based on whether we spot any other bugs. Here's what you will see so far...

  • OleBoy's "extreme" paint jobs :applause:
  • The electric gauges (fuel level, oil temp, etc) will go dead if the battery switch is off.
  • The artificial horizon is now electrically driven.
  • I noted that for me the self shadowing had a major issue around the tail depending on the angle of the sun. That has been fixed...on my rig at least.
  • The plane displays better in the preview window.
  • The right wing group has been moved outboard a small amount.
  • Right click on the upper right mounting screw on the tach and a $10 bill will come out of your cd drive tray! (NOT!) :icon_lol:
I'm taking my time on this as I really don't want to have to do it again. Inputs are welcome. The key is that I am only doing things that affect the model files, as the service pack will only be model files and the aircraft.cfg file. I'm trying to keep it simple, but worth your time to download. I've learned a h**l of a lot about testing with this release...I appreciate your support and patience. :salute:

I've almost got it. A bit more proportioning, and then it should be good.

I had to tweak the contact points to get this shot

It's on the fuselage textures. It is mapped to one of those little grey boxes at the top of the sheet.

I've been experimenting on the last bit of the template and mapping, and end results. Robert likes the look attained, so he is attempting the needed mapping adjustment in hopes it will allow more refinements of a painters choice. Without having to deal with a lot of fuss.

Still applying new techniques.

They are only on this particular repaint at the moment. Of which I may revisit my previous paints, and possibly update/re-upload.

This scheme sure turned out nice. I'd say the most realistic in sim.

If anyone knows the registration (ZK-something?), it would be nice to know. Otherwise I won't release it. Here it is at any rate. Note that I still need to put the "Thorp T-18" logo on the tail.
