Oldest son and I are boxed up and heading to Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill for the event this afternoon. Check out your local astronomy clubs and universities, many will be setting up this afternoon for this. West coasters will get a longer view. In case you cannot get out to see it through an eyepiece or in case weather is bad (kind of iffy here even), go here for a live webcam view. Online webcam begins at 5:30 PM. In case weather traps us at Morehead, there is a webcam from Hawaii also.

After the good old rainy British summer returned today for most of us, it is not possible to see the live event.
BBC2 put on a special programme at 21.00 BST, showing live footage from around the world.

Not only the large celebrations as seen on TV, but the thousands of street parties really brought neighbourhoods together.
Fantastic four days!
