• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

The Ultimate Simulation?

Humane limits/interactions are one of the major keypoints of the test, and body odors won´t make the trainees´job easier. There will be possibly more chances to rub a few H2O molecules onto one´s skin in the real space ship.

That is amazing. Well done, crew!

Can you imagine a flight time of over a year, for only 2 days on Mars???? We need to perhaps work on that. Make the stay on Mars like their little victory vacation time, though yes, they would be working pretty hard at getting samples and things. But after sitting that long in the capsule, I am sure it would be like a vacation..

Although I understand what they're trying to determine - the experiment is seriously flawed and such results should not be relied upon.

Here's the flaw; the participants (crew) can quit and leave whenever they want.

Having this "escape valve" in the back of their minds goes a long way toward enhancing their ability to overcome the psychological stresses of such confinement. Not having it (like during a real mission) would be a far more accurate representation of what the mission would be like and how a crew would likely react.

Of course, you can't really confine someone against their will without due process of law (in most places) so it's going to be really difficult to replicate an accurate psychological environment - and generate accurate results.

Sorry - no way I would rely on these results to tell me anything definitive about the crew's experience.
