This Lunatic could cause a problem

Ever read comic books when you were a kid, the super hero always disguises themselves as a wimp like Superman or Spiderman so no one suspects them. What if "Fat Boy" or who ever is pulling the strings has grown up reading those same comics, and thinks he is a super hero, the chosen one. It would be very easy to test a missile you already knew would fail, and how clever he would look to his people when the time came that suddenly the missiles weren't so flawed, a true God of war. All joking aside this again could be a very serious situation that needs to be watched very closely. I have always been a history nut and one of the questions that has always intrigued me is why people seem to have this need to play follow the leader. For whatever reason we choose a Leader be it a Jim Jones, Hitler, Roosevelt or Gandhi, good or evil, and we follow them come what may. If you study the Nuremburg Trails, countless times it was stated "We knew it was wrong but orders are orders" or "We didn't know". You would think that somebody would stand up and say "Hey people this isn't right it's not working, its time to change". I always look at that picture of the guy in China in Tiananmen Square standing in front of that tank, how the world would have changed that day if even 1000, 2000, or 500,000 Chinese had stood in front of that tank. You simply can't run us all over. I ask myself over and over again even when you know something is dead wrong what is it that makes people follow the leader, what is it about human beings that makes them drink the Kool-Aid. North Koreans ask yourselves why are we hungry allowing our selves to be lead like sheep, by a guy who looks like he hasn't missed a meal since the day he was born. A man who has everything and shares nothing. Only you the people of North Korea can change this.

I'm afraid too many North Korean citizenry have been duped and brainwashed to know any better. But not all. Many still try to escape to South Korea through China or Mongolia,...and if luck is with them using Asia's Underground Railroad,...they make it to ROK or the United States. As far as suppressive world states, North Korea leads the pack with Zimbabwe and Cuba trailing right behind. As least one might be able to grab a good cigar in Cuba.

The person who posted this clip featuring a desperate starving young woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGR0BD2e1Ok) on youtube wrote:

"Her body was apparently already decomposing by the time it was found, but the local People's Safety Ministry agents were in no hurry to deal with it because she did not have any family, so it was left for a long time...

It's estimated that up to 3.5m people have died of starvation in North Korea since 1995 and up to 300,000 have fled over the border to China."

Heartbreaking! :-(

I don't think it's Kim Jong-Un we need to worry about. It's his military advisors- Kill Yan-ke, Noo Kem, Chu Tem, and Wi Kan Win that we need to worry about.

I was about to be impressed with how much you were paying attention to all the people involved, but then.. :redf::icon_lol:

Ack Ack, just getting ready to head out the door to school, but loyal to my favorite site, I checked in. Saw that post of yours and wanted to drop a line.

There was a lot of bombast in the Western press some years back about how geriatric the Soviet leadership was - the youngest guy on the Politburo was in his early 70s, the average age was early 80s, how can these guys keep up with a US president 30/40 years their junior, etc etc - what everyone in the press was forgetting was, these guys had an overwhelming corporate memory of WWII and the genuine suffering it inflicted on the Soviet Union. Many remembered the Russian Revolution and its suffering as well. They believed in spreading "fraternal Socialist doctrine" as long as it didn't entail the destruction of the birthplace of that doctrine, so there was rationality behind their actions and with a little thought you could figure out what they were up to and counter it. The problem with NORK is that its current leader has no memory of war and the suffering it entails, and is irrational to boot - he believes his own propaganda. The (apparent) geriatric condition of his senior military leaders, who do remember war, could be his only saving grace at this time. Once those geezers start to be replaced by younger guys, we're in deep trouble. This is also why Mr. Putin is deeply troubling to a number of us who, for trade or fun, follow current events among the world's great nations, as he likewise is very aware of his country's military power but has no visceral memory of the suffering of war and is therefore more likely to use that power.

Fat Boy Kim may not be able to back up his threats. But he is risking a heap load of trouble if he doesn't ratchet down his rhetoric, combined with his plans to launch two missiles.

For those looking for a variety of informative articles on the current situation, and news that's as probably as recent as you're going to find, go here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/northkoreanews

The website above is a social and news aggregate, and this "sub-reddit" has collected a wide variety of information regarding the current (and historical) situation.

EDIT: For those not willing to use an aggregate subject to a wide variety of international news sources, I recommend tracking the following news organizations:

Reuters http://www.reuters.com/

Yonhap (South Korean news agency) http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/

Thank you SeanTK for that most interesting site, which in turn led to more extremely interesting articles and sites.:salute:

Whilst everyone is laughing at Kim Jong Un's bad haircut, this guy's actually shaping up to be very dangerous.
Whilst everyone (with any sense) will want to avoid bloodshed, can the U.S afford to wait until North Korea has developed the technology to deliver it's pre emptive strike against the American mainland as he has promised? I think not.
I don't think this will end well.

While I think this is about 3 things, food, fuel, and money; what's different is that he's pushed the threats to the point where there's no graceful
way to back out. In the past, the saber-rattling was contained and fairly beligerent, but there was room to wiggle. He's left none.
