thrown out....

I get thrown out sometimes flying above Malta. The sim halts and I'm back on my desktop. Can you CFS2 guru's give some general causes for this?

:confused:

If you've installed everything according to instructions and deactivated every possible scenery install that could conflict, its gonna be nothing more than a memory leak...a hardware problem. How strong is your machine? In your current hardware configuration, that detailed Malta installation is giving the sim's memory regulator a headache as it loads in your flyover.

Check for any conflicting scenery installs covering that area and increase your dynamic scenery memory cache to something much higher than the default 10 MB. I have 4 GB of physical memory, 2 GB of virtual memory (pagefile on the C drive) and i run my sim with 200 MB of scenery memory cache.

The cache can be changed inside the sim in the scenery library dialog. You can also change it outside of the sim by opening the scenery.cfg in notepad and modifying the bold highlighted entry shown below:

[General]
Title=CFS2 World
Description=CFS 2 Scenery data
Cache_Size=200M
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE

Me too

Happens to me too. CTD when I depart Ta'Qali and pan left quarter front at about the end of the runway. Instant crash. It's repeatable and consistent.

I doubt it is a memory issue. I think something in the scenery is missing or corrupted but I have no clue what it is.

I agree.....

CK, I think you've hit on it. I have a MTO install with all the Bruno Malta scenery in it and it does fine......I ocassionally used to get a CTD due to memory issues like frame rates, then I doubled my RAM to 2 gig and it's fine. I also have a base install with some of my favorite scenery in it, Malta included and it crashes almost every time. I've never been able to figure out why. I'm pretty sure there's no conflict and I'm also pretty sure it's not a memory issue. I have PHP in the same install and it never causes me a problem.

I'm stumped as well. (BC, I'm just to stay safe, gonna increase my cache to at least 100). I've tried using the scenery without the GSL stuff, it doesn't matter, I still get the CTD. It'd be nice to find out what's doin' this.

Cheers!

This looks exactly like my CTD.

Fellas, I just checked both installs, one against the other. In my much older MTO install I have layouts for the Malta runways installed, in the new basic install I do not. I checked the dowload I used for the basic install and notice that though there's a folder included for layouts, it's empty. This is from Bruno's Malta v2.

Could this be the problem?

I don't have this installed, but I know when I was working on my Andamans project you could get CTD in locations that were associated with a join between two LOD 5 landclass or Waterclass areas. If you don't match up the cells exactly, you can get a CTD as the sim trys (and fails) to reconcile the different land/ waterclass call-outs.

Maybe someone could check out the LC & WC files?

I don't get it ALL the time, but Malta has been to at least an extent....temperamental. Having a somewhat faster PC as helped, and Bearcat's advice has also made the frequency less.

If you get a CTD in the same location, and it's always repeatable there, then you have some bad scenery.

Use the Scenery Library, and see exactly which folder contains the bad BGL. Then use the halving method to locate the problem...

Rename half the BGLs with the extension .test to deactivate them, then run the sim. Does it crash? If yes, then it must be in the un-deactivated half. If no, then rename half of the .test back to .bgl and retest. Repeat until you find the exact BGL.

When you find the BGL, you might want to decompile it, as sometimes it's a particular texture and not the secnery itself.

A worst-case scenario is when you find it is not in a BGL at all. Then it would most likely be a GSL referencing a bad or missing object or texture.

Would having duplicate scenery library files cause a problem? Malta version 1 has a library file called bsx_malta.bgl while version 2 has one with the same library objects called bsk_malta.bgl.
If the first version's files were not individually deleted, then not all files would be overwritten when installing version 2.

Hi all

that could be caused by a single texture bmp corrupted from one of the sceneries or objects texture folder that is already happened with the first Egypt's med waters set.
I'm seaching the thread ....
