Think I have this sending video worked out. Listen to the sounds of these two P & W 2800 engines. What an airplane. Having a top notch one for FS9 is what I am now waiting for.

I don't know why, if this plane is used for racing, why they never got rid of the cumbersom and heavy wing locking mechanism with it hydraulics lines, struts and locking mechanism. I was lucky when my Uncle Sam, who commanded the first F7-F Marine squadron, flew the prototype up to Beverly Airport during the war. It didn't have a back seat then.

I'd love to find a good model of that to fly...Specifically payware.

Simple really, the locking mechanisms form part of the stress paths
for the wing.

The Alpha Sim F7F, freeware, is really nice. The VC is good, the modeling is good. I have uploaded a panel set and sound set for the plane.

I have installed Alphasim's F7F a number of times in the past and the addon sounds and panels. Deleted them every time. Compared to the Sectionf8's F-86 and Warbirdsim's P-51 Alpha's is a disappointment. As a RW pilot I like it when it is as close to the real thing as possible. Don't want a F7F or P-51 to fly like a J-3 Cub.

maybe if we were a little nicer to developers they'd be less aprehensive about modeling nice things... just a thought from a modeller's perspective :d

I really don't think anyone is too harsh around here. If it's freeware people shouldn't complain. But if I'm paying for it and don't like it I'm going to speak up in a kind way. If any developers need a shoulder to cry on just PM me and I'll lend them mine!hehe:costumes:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about anyone's work designing these aircraft, freeware or payware, I would not know even how to begin. All I am hoping for is that someone with the gift of doing this stuff would maybe think of doing a F7F at todays quality. Alpha's was top of the line I am sure for it's time.

It was hoped that the SOH team would take up the F7F after releasing the incredible Douglas A-26 series aircraft, but they have retired from building aircraft. :(

As for not removing the wing folding mechanism in that particular F7F, you have to remember that it is a restored aircraft that is also used in races. If the wing fold system was removed, then it is no longer an accurate restoration. Most restored naval aircraft have retained their wing folding capabilities.

I just reinstalled the Alpha Tiger cat this weekend.
Like some of you guys I did not really like the way that it felt dynamically when I first got it a few years ago and rarely flew it.
While roaming around the file library here at SOH one night I came across 2 flight dynamics upgrades for the Alpha F7F done by SOH member Fliger747.
One for the day fighter F7F-3 file name Tigerkitty-2 and another for the night fighter F7F3-N file name F7F3-N.zip.
These dynamics were made by Fliger747 to enable the Alpha Tiger cat to be eligible to be flown in the virtual round the world air race.
What a transformation.
The cats have got some claws now.
Pull it's tail and expect to be thrown on your head to practice spin recovery.
It really feels like what you would expect a high powered twin engined airplane with quite a high wing loading and a very slippery shape to behave like.
I'm having a lot of fun with them.
I split the Night fighter off into it's own folder and added some of the very nice repaints that have been done for the Tiger cat and added the sounds and effects from the SOH A-26 to complete the package.
The A-26 start up effects especially work very well with the F7F.
Untill some tallented team builds a state of the art Tigercat this will at least give me an insight into what it is like to fly the mighty F7F.

I installed Alphasim's Tigercat again and I'm having the same problem, can't get a panel. Downloaded a panel by someone called ABLO and it shows (2D) but most of the panel holes are empty. Is there some other panel I should use? Got the sounds from the A26 working, but may need help with the Tigerkitty-2.zip & F7F3-N.zip files from fliger747 later. I'm very dumb at adding things like this so need you experts to walk me through on just where to put things and what to delete. Why don't one of you move next door to me? :banghead:
thanks for you help.
Bob

Hi Bob,

I've just downloaded and installed the Tigercat panel by OBIO ( see his post further up ). Thanks OBIO :jump:.

It's great :applause: , but check inside the panel folder and you'll find another folder of gauges to install either in the panel folder or the FS gauges folder.

While we're on the subject of the Tigercat .... who can recommend good repaints for it please ?

Thanks,

Pete.

Would love to find a good soundset for the Tigercat. Something that captures the "cackle" of those big Pratts at idle, and the roar that they made in Mustang51's "You Tube" presentation. Man.. what a hot rod that thing must have been.

How about a few links as I have have to start all over from nothing??? Tigercat isn't here at SOH?

Search Tigercat in Avsim , Flightsim and Simviatiom.
Several paints and updates .

That's were I got them from, three on flightSim.com and Three on avsim.com.
Just put TIGERCAT in the search menuu.
I have not checked simviation for repaints but will do now.
Thanks IVANOW.

BTW you can download the airplane here from Alphasim

http://www.alphasim.co.uk/fwd.html

Not sure about panels as I am using the original version from Alpha from a few years ago that came with a panel.
