Top Five Warbirds?

Extended five Huub? Good idea! ;)

In a totally random order:

1.Classic Hangars FW-190
2.Flight replicas CAC Boomerang
3.Flight Replicas Me-262
4.WoP3 Spitfire
5.Aerosoft PBY Catalina
5.Alphasim He-111
5.Rob Richardson's DH Hornets
5.Piglets Skyraiders
5.Sky Unlimited P-38's
5.Vertigo P-36

Which coincidentally are also all warbirds installed at the moment!

Except for one which I won't name and I'm glad I didn't buy full price because at the moment it's nothing but a pretty model.. Actually not even that because they've got the number of cylinders wrong! :banghead:

Boy. Judging by the responses so far it certainly looks like A2A are currently ruling the roost in the warbirds dept. Anyway in no particular order my choices are:

1. A2A P-47 with Accusim
2. A2A Spitfire with Accusim
3. Warbirdsim P-51
4. Flight Replica's CAC Boomerang
5. Aerosoft Catalina

extended five, that I can do!

anything by A2A
anything by Vertigo
anything by Warbirdsim
anything by Classics hangar
anything by maam-sim/section F8
anything by piglet
and of course the Aerosoft Catalina and and FSD P-38 and the Lysander and the Fury and the Beaufighter and the Gladiator and the Liberator.

I believe that covers my favorite warbirds reasonably well....

TOP FIVE

TOP FIVE (sheepish grin)

I agree with no less than FIVE of my fellow simmers....So that is my top FIVE....Number of aircraft comes out to about seventeen.....but only FIVE lists....

Ol'jarhead:wiggle::wavey:

5 huh? I don't know if I can do this! I mean so many awesome aircraft and so little money and time!!!! Well I have to watch my pennies so I don't buy much except anything Orbx puts out and I can't do that anymore either-the stand-alone airports finished me off.

Let's see in no particular order...just 5 huh???? Let me think...

1. Anything and everything except the Corsair by A2A Simulations...it just needs a little more TLC and Accusim. I LOVE ACCUSIM!!!!!
2. Anything Piglet puts out...heck I still fly his converted Boeing Monoplane! Have you tried his latest?????
3. Anything Milton puts out...if he even thinks it I want it!
4. Aerosoft's Catalina-WOW! Be sure and get the updates
5. Section 8 F-86----I love this jet fighter!!! Full FSX pending still?
5. Everything Flight Replica...will buy the Boomerang someday soon! Everyday flyers!
5. Rob's DH Hornet
5. Sky Unlimited's Texan and P-38s I hope Jesse hasn't quit making aircraft!!!! TEXAN is AWESOME!
5. Roy Chaffin's B-25
5. All my personally converted MAAM aircraft! Gee I wish they were faster
5. Eaglesoft's Piper Twin Commanche...I used to fly one of my buddy's in R/L outstanding airplane Eaglesoft!!! If I had the bucks I would buy more of your aircraft.

When my rich uncle dies and I get an inheritance I want the Warbirdsim P-51, The Duke-actually flew one of those too, Milviz's Cessna 310- a work of art, and the DC-2 and Classic Hanger's FW190 (what a beauty).

Oh heck I give up I can't name just these 5!!!
Ted

Some great aircraft listed here! :applause:

One that I hadn't thought about before was the Boomerang which got some votes. I will certainly look that one up.

Unlike FS9, most of the best warbirds are now payware - I think that ever more demanding simmers have pushed many freeware developers out of the hobby. Creating a VC to match the best available today is a daunting prospect.

Fortunately, the are still a few excellent freeware developers. Here is my FREEWARE top five -

Dave Garwood's Beaufighter - A top notch freeware release of a beautiful aircraft
Piglets Skyraider - I have seen one fly a few times and Tim's really catches its character
Piglets Kingfisher - only recently discovered by by me thanks to Huub
Aeroplane Heaven's Spitfire two seater - Perhaps the best freeware one available
Piglets Super Tucano - OK I know its not really a Warbird, but it does have guns and rockets!

Don't forget Piglet's Shinden, Saab J21, Northrop XP-56 Black Bullet and his upcoming project!

:salute:

1. A2A Wop3 Spitfire. I claim always to fly to the 'by the book' in FSX, but it's easy to say when nothing blows up if you screw up. Here it does, and it's made me raise my game. After some early failures I'm now up to 6 hours on the same engine and still in good shape. She looks, sounds and flies like a dream.

2. Warbirdsim P-51D. I'm so fickle, but until VERY recently this was my No.1. The attention to detail throughout is amazing and the sounds are magnificent. It's outstandingly good in every department and a complete blast to fly.

3. Wozza's FSDS T-6. I like this better than either of the payware offerings. It feels big, noisy, not particularly agile, and like it might just kill me if I don't watch that airpeed and attitude.

4. Just Flight BoB Hurricane. There aren't many FSX Hurricanes so if you want one you have to choose between this and the First Class version. I'm not the world's biggest JF/AH fan but this wins hands down. I reckon this is their best release to date.

5. First Class (Hawker Heroes) Fury Mk1. For me, it's worth the price of the HH package on its own. The external model and textures are exquisite and it flies like a big Pitts Special, which might be right for all I know. Aerobatics were never so elegant - even with me flying.

You're right Lewis, I think this is definitely a warbird as well......

cheers,
Huub

1. A2A P-51D WoP II
2. Vertigo F8F Bearcat
3. A2A F-4U Corsiar
4. MAAM-SIM B-25
5. Aerosoft PBY

Wishlist:

1. DeHavilland Venom (non-Sea Venom variant)
2. Detailed Mosquito (especially PR- variants)
3. F-82E and G
4. B-29A

Difficult to press this into just five selections, but I'd vote for

1. A2A P-47d Thunderbolt
2. Aerosoft PBY Catalina
3. Vertigo SBD Dauntless
4. CAC Bomerang (a masterpiece)
5. A2A B-17

further

MAAM Sim B-25 and the R4D / C-47 / DC-3
A2A P-40b
Vertigo F6F Hellcat
A2A F4-U Corsair
Most aircraft by Tim Conrad (Porter, etc)

I'm itching for RAZBAMs Curtiss Helldiver and look forward to Vertigos B-25, C-47 and MAAMs new release of its C-47.

And my Version of

Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam

reads: Developers of weapon packs for FSX, _please_, include WW2 weapon systems and torpedos in later releases!

Cheers,
Mark

Perhaps this is the type of thread that deserves a sticky?

Lots of great warbirds recommended by 'enthusiast' purchasers.

Since starting the thread, I have bought the Warbirdsim P-51D and the Flight Replicas Boomerang - based on recommendations here. They are two of the nicest aircraft that I have purchased :salute:

Also, I have added Ant's excellent Tiger Moth to my stable :d

Next on my list is probably the A2A Spitfire!

BTW, my revised top 5 (in no particular order) is -

Realair Spitfire
Warbirdsim P51D
Flight Replicas Boomerang
Classic Hangar Fw190
Just Flight Hurricane

Cheers

Paul

I guess my 5 would be, in no particular order

A2A Accu-sim Spitfire
FCS Lancaster (it has problems but best version of a wonderful plane)
Iris F-14
A2A Accu-sim B-17
SibWings Cessna Bird Dog (It has military paints and can be equipped with rockets or bombs, so it's a warplane lol)
:salute:

For anyone in the UK, flightstore -

www.flightstore.co.uk

have a sale until the end of the month. The sale is on all FS software.

P&P is free over £50. So I have just bought three new warbirds -
Flight Replicas - Me262
Vertigo - Bearcat
Hawker Heroes - just for the Fury

All for just over £50 delivered.

Hopefully they will be here soon :).

Cheers

Paul

If wasn't able to put an A2A/Accusim aircraft on the list of my existing favorites, it would look like this:

1. Aerosoft's PBY
2. CS C-130X
3. Uiver DC-2 (in WWII service colors)
4. CS B727-200 (in USAF C-22 colors)
5. CS B707-300 (in USAF MATS colors)

Barring that first A2A statement then my wishlist would look like this:
1. B-29 with Accusim
2. B-36 with Accusim
3. C-54 with Accusim
4. C-97 with Accusim tied with a B-24 with Accusim
5. C-133 with Accusim

And for a spare tire on the wishlist would be a fully Accusimed Super Galaxy C-5M
