Hi everyone!
This set of 22 training missions for the Bristol Beaufort has been uploaded and will hopefully soon be ready for the CFS2 community to use. This campaign has been a long time coming and is intended as the first part of a series of Beaufort campaigns that will cover the ETO, the MTO, and the PTO.

This campaign has some unique features; I'd like to know what you think of them.
First, as a training campaign, there is no enemy!
Second, it is intended to work with Rhumbaflappy's LOD8 mesh, Stiz' euro textures, and Simonu's CFS2 seasons.
Third, it is intended for use in real-time with no tactical display. You have to follow instructions of the navigator to complete the missions.
Fourth, it uses advanced weather, as taught in CodyCoyote's tutorial.
Fifth, it includes detailed flight and mission instructions in an accompanying pdf file.
Sixth, it demands that the pilot pay attention to the instruments, and for best performance, to learn to fly blind.

I hope to build the operational missions in the ETO next, but it would be great to get some feedback on this series first.

I wish we had a Beaufort back when we made the Battle of the Bismarck Sea campaign.

It's my Beaufort, of course! (beaufort1-b and beaufort1-t at the Sim Outhouse.) I built them about 3 years ago. There are two different versions of the same aircraft, the first with bay doors for bombing, and the second with a channel underneath for the torpedo to ride in, partly exposed.
I also built the Mark II, as well as the Australian Mk VIII version; there are all here at the Outhouse.

I'm a real fan of the Beaufort, so I'm definitely going to d/load the mission pack and give it a whirl! :)

I'm two thirds the way through your Beaufort OTU campaign. It is absolutely brilliant and a real pleasure to fly. It is a great test of your flying and navigational ability as well as the usual CFS bombing and torpedo attack skills. The night landing is especially difficult with the feeble runway lighting - that's if you've managed to find your way back to Chivenor!

You certainly have put a great deal of hard work into these missions. The aerodromes look good and the Welsh and Scottish countryside look fabulous with the new LOD8 mesh. I like the air traffic controller voices, including the Scottish accent. Your Beauforts look good and fly well - I've installed the Marshel Thompson instrument panel.

I have to admit I'm a bit of a Beaufort fan as my dad was stationed with RAAF 100 Squadron Beauforts at Gurney, Milne Bay, New Guinea.

I'll be looking forward to your next chapter of the Beaufort saga.

Yes, I had an engine fire but fortunately the Beaufort maintained altitude and I made a successful belly landing at Chivenor after the landing gear would not extend.

However, I was no good at trying to destroy a ship while flying straight and level at altitude - in the end I put the aircraft into a dive and dropped my bombs at mast height.

There is one tiny error in the cmg file which prevents you from proceeding to the next mission:

Bombing: why did you bomb straight and level? the proper techinqe is the fairly shallow dive, with flaps to control speed, and drop ordnance around 1500 feet. Just curious;

glad the fire worked! Its on a random trigger, so one ought to get a fire about once in 25 missions.

I thought I was supposed to level out at 1500ft - either way I can't hit anything at that altitude unless I'm in a steep dive or use the cheat's bombsight. After all bombing was a two man job in the Beaufort.

Well all I can say it was a pretty damn good effort for a campaign beginner.

Hey kdriver; would love to know how successful you were with the navigation. Did you ever get lost? Also, did you complete the mission to Islay?

Hi Merlin,

I didn't get lost as navigation has always been my forte, although I must admit my Beaufort is equipped with an ADF. I really enjoyed the navigation exercises - the night ones very interesting as far as the landings were concerned, more good luck than good flying.

The Islay scotch run went well although I was starting to feel airsick with the heavy turbulence.

I added the Islay scotch run in honour of my wife, named Islay-May, and in honour of Catch-22. But I ddin't realize at the time how prevalent an activity it was for the RAF. The last two books I read both had pilots involved in illegal transport of booze!
