Hey everyone!! :salute: :wiggle:

I know... 99% don't even remember me... hehehe... it's been a long time. Ever since I took up my double major, I haven't even had time to sleep... let alone CFS-2...

Anyway, I had a question concerning aerial torpedoes. They seem to go right through the ship after I drop them... I drop my fish at about 100 ft. altitude and 100 knots, about 950-1000 yards from the target. Is this a proper speed, altitude, and distance? Is there something I can modify with the torp so it goes off on contact, or is my approach all wrong? I only have two torpedo bombers, the Avenger and Devastator.

Thanks for the help guys!

100/100 is fine.

The trick is to hit the same end as you approach. (CFS2 bug)

Steer for a point ~ two (2) boat-lengths ahead, ...after a run-up parallel to position yourself ~ four (4) boat-lengths ahead, ...and then turn in perpendicular.

When the ship closes to ~ 45 degrees off your heading, ...I adjust my heading so that the angle rate of change stops, ...so that you am now on a collision course.

When you get close (I don't know how close because I don't use DME), ...the angle rate of change will begin again and the ship will start to move across in front of you.

It is at this point that I release, ... about two (2) boat-lengths out and aiming one (1) boat-length ahead.

Will usually hit the forward quarter.

I recently posted 2 videos with torpedo attacks on a ship from a TBF-1 Avenger (B-24 Guys conversion of the stock plane)

In one, I watched as my torpedo ran under the forward section of the ship. In the other, I hit it just astern of amidships.

The only thing I did different with the two is that in the second run, I approached from about 45 degrees and from astern. In the first I hit (ran under) coming in perpendicular to the course of the ship. Maybe the angle has something to do with it.

Ran Under: http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j...w&current=USSSaratogaCV-3SolomonsStrike2A.mp4

Hit: http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/Pechora07/?action=view&current=SolomonsStrike2APart1.mp4

Now that I think of it, I almost always get a hit when approaching from an angle. Maybe that's why AI torpedo planes do the same. Note the angle in the attached screen shot. I hit and sank that ship.

Then again... these 2 short 30 second videos defeat that theory: http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/Pechora07/?action=view&current=cfs22005-02-2205-20-58-65.mp4

TORPEDO RUNS

Hi there DD!!
Check the ship models. If IIRC this was the consensus of some postings awhile back that the original models have no depth and some ship models do NOT extend below the water so all torpedoes are "deep divers". Sort of like shooting at a riverboat or a LST. Flat bottoms, no draft.
I believe Uzio, Collins and some others ( Uncle Tgt?) do have depth below the waterline.
Just my two cents.

Fibber: Those two ships in the short videos I posted at the end of my post above were original/stock ships and the torpedoes were dropped close in as you can see. I'm begining to think it all comes down to a dice throw.
