Traffic X ?

Traffic X just cpipples my rig for some reason....

MyTrafficX never did that.......

I have tons of WOAI packs that I used for FS9..But I do not know how to put them into FSX..

If I can learn to then I will ditch TrafficX till I go X58....

Please teach me ....:ernae:

Tried AI Flight Planner to convert your "older" AI to FSX format?
Dunno if ya already downloaded/installed the program (up to 1.6 now and available at AVSIM). It is pretty straight forward in how to convert stuff, and once done it will easily co-exist with your traffic X

Unless i totally miss your point, this might be the solution...:engel016:

Ah A new installer...I'll go get that then..

I guess my point is that my new Just Flight TrafficX kills my frames...I'm still looking into it ...But Aerosofts MyTrafficX never hurt my frames nearly this bad....

Thanks ..:ernae:

Odd, have both. MyTraffic i quickly ditched due to the bad appearance of the aircraft (especially the military ones (F-15, 16, 18)). The Traffic X birds gave me no trouble at all (and I'm not running top end hardware). Active Sky X is however (looks great, but i can only use it to have a current refresh of weather, then i have to kill it).
The only negative i have with TrafficX is that it does not contain a tool like AI Flight Planner that allows you to add AI planes (it only allows to add liveries of planes included in package), and to generate flight plans for them.

Yeah, it's pretty painless these days.

1) Download and install the installer.
2) Download the packages you want.
3) Run installer, load a package click next a few times and install it.
4) Repeat until your packages are all in.
5) Drink beer.

Simple. :)

Is the installer nowadays fully compatible with FSX then?
With me it killed all my FSX AI (default and stuff like TrafficX and My Traffic X), due to older FS9 format.
Had/have to convert alll flightplans to FSX format first before adding them to FSX

It'll still replace your default AI, which is horrendous on frame rates anyway. I downloaded a bunch of airlines, some military traffic and a lot of GA stuff and selected FSX in the installer when putting the packages in. Works fine.

So you did not have to convert them at all....??? What about the AI sounds? Does it do that now too..

I have an old installer for FS9 and all you did was select the package and select yes about 3 times...

Is that what you are doing? As I want to keep my FSX traffic as it does not really hurt me at 75% as long as I stay out of KSEA and New Youk....LOL

I fly GA anyway ....

Thanks...

WOAI installer lets you install into FSX painlessly but it still relies on older FS9 format and thus will kill your FSX default AI, which means if you desire both you need to convert the flightplans still. If all you use is WOAI then no worries.

I need to learn how and with what to convert them so I can keep my FSX ones......

I followed in a TrafficX plane today and it pulled across the grass twice and taxied like a drunkard idiot all over the airport till it finally stopped on the grass and shut down...never seen that before.....

I think it was TrafficX anyway...It was a red Cub that I have never seen in FSX...But I have not flown FSX much to notice...

Harleyman, the easiest way of moving WOAI over will be to copy and paste from FS9 to FSX (assuming the planes work OK in fsx from when you installed them originally - maybe someone else can comment on this).

I created a new folder in Sim Objects for AI to keep them separate from my flyable ones (also remember to add a line in your CFG file to recognise it).
Copy all your FS9 planes over to SimObjects/New AI Folder Name
Copy your flight plans over to Scenery/World/Scenery
Use AIFP (freeware download, very simple) to convert them to FSX format so that it doesn't kill any other traffic files you have in FSX format (this will create new bgl's and rename the originals as .bak files in FSX, so I deleted them once converted).

You can then use the installer to install new packages, just remember to map it to your new AI aircraft folder in FSX. You wil need to convert them from fs9 to fsx format each time you install them, so I tend to save them up and do them as a batch.

I deactivated my original traffic file by renaming it .bak, but I wanted to keep the GA files, so I have also added flight plans I found somewhere for the default GA aircraft that someone had split down (one traffic file for each type of plane I wanted in there, keeping it very modular for future tinkering).

As for AI sounds, I have installed some freeware ones into my flyable ones (get them on Avsim in FSX Sounds, they are excellent). Then just create AI sound folders in each AI aircraft folder linking to the relevant one. For simplicity, I use 3 jet ai sounds - 1 linked to my 747 default (for big stuff), one to my 737 default (for smaller stuff), one to my 737_200 addon for older stuff like my VC10, 707, 737, 1-11 etc. Not got round to uprating the other stuff yet such as props.

Hope that helps

Ok Thanks for that Guzler..

This will be on a fresh install with no FS9 I believe..

So i need another folder in SimObjects then....

Need to change them to FSX format (First,or after they are installed ) ?

By doing that is it enough to keep my original FSX traffic ? (having the new AI in its own folder) ?

You don't need another folder for the AI aircraft, that is just my personal preference, it makes it easier to manage them I find, only takes seconds to set up that way.

It is the traffic files you convert, not the aircraft. As far as I am aware, if you put the traffic files into their own folder (eg create a new folder called 'WOAI Traffic' in Addon Scenery - with a scenery folder to contain the files, then activate the scenery in the game), you can leave them as fs9 format and they won't prevent other FSX traffic files from working such as your default although I'm not 100% on this.

If you decide to put them into the world/sceney folder with the default traffic file (like I have done), then you must convert them after you have copied them over. In AIFP, there is an option to do this and it asks you to select the folder they are in. It will tell you which ones need converting and will do them all together once prompted.

Hope that anwers your questions. I learnt it all by help from this forum too.

Ok I'm sorry but these type of things just give me a headache...Now I'm lost again...LOL That is not unusual for me though......

Heres where I'm lost... I have used the installer dozens of times...I have never seen where you have any abality to just install the traffic files seperate....So i don't know where they install to ,so I have no clue where to find them to convert....Hmmmmm

So...I can let them (the packages) auto install.(default lacation). That will do the plane and traffic file..( these need converting,,and will kill my FSX traffic)

Or I can install them into my OWN folder in addon scenery / scenery and enable with the scenery library in FSX...Now these need converting into FSX format ...( or do not need converted????????)

Now I see better...Do I assume that the traffic files are sitting with each plane (package) ?

So...I WILL make my own folder for AI....I will try that way on this test machine...Thanks much

Thanks ...:ernae:

Where is this converting tool found at?????/

My older Installer has the FSX deal included (option to install to FSX..I guess I just want to browse it to my new AI folder/ scenery folder????

Here are some screen shots, one showing the edited lines in my cfg file and the Sim Objects folder, the other showing the AIFP function to identify files that need converting, you click on the right drive until you select the folder where your traffic files are stored.

I was assuming you still have FS9 set up, so that was my original suggestion to just copy the aircraft and the traffic files over to FSX (maybe I misread, I appologise if I have confused you). If you haven't, then yes you will need to install the packages 1 by 1 and you will be installing both aircraft and traffic files using the installer in the normal way. As far as I am aware, you only need to convert them if you put the traffic files in the same folder as other FSX traffic files. If you put them into a different folder, all by themsleves, you shouldn't need to so this. As you may know, WOAI installs a seperate traffic file for each airline, so if you are installing them, run AIFP converting tool after doing them all and it will convert them all in one go.

Ugh...Don't like the look of the second pics interface....LOL

I will give it a shot in about an hour...I gotta head out now for zip ties for my new PSU....

How did you get the entry in your config about Force Vert Sync??? My ATI does not show that entry for the config...But it works anyway....?

Thanks for all your tips and help...I certainly appreciate it...I will test it ouit on this rig before I do it permantely on my gaming rig......

Not sure about the vertical sync, never noticed it !

No problems, hope you get set up, I love the WOAI stuff. The interface is really really simple, even I managed it !
Don't be put off by all the other stuff on it, that is for creating and editing flight plans, converting is a simple option. Editing and creating is a little more complex as I have found out , although I'm sure some of the issues could be dealt with by the program.

Yes, 6 & 7 was edited in manually.

Ok I got the tool and had alook..Seems easy enough...

One more question please..

I will make a new folder in add on scenery for my packages to install too( I will browse the AI installer to that folder....

So...What folder to use?? I will have two....

AI Traffic( that activates like any addon scenery) with a sub-folder inside called scenery...

Looking at the installer, you can choose the path for the aircraft to go (create your new AI aircraft folder first in 'Sim Objects' so it recognises it, and edit your cfg), but I can't see an option to select the path for the traffic files meaning they will automatically go to the Senery/World/Scenery folder. If you are going to convert them to FSX format, you may as well leave them there rather than creating a new folder in 'addon Scenery'. This is what I have done. These will then work along side your default traffic file unless you deactivate it.
