Trans-Siberian Orchestra; A spectacle to behold!

Friday night I went with my wife and two boys to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in Greensboro, NC. At $48.00 per, I was expected to be disappointed. NOT

This is a spectacle for the entire family that is not to be missed if they are playing in your vicinity. It has been over 25 years since I attended a concert in a coliseum, because usually the sound in such an environment is not musically tasteful to me. Not this show, everything was A-one professional, sound, lighting. It was in short a spectacle to behold and I am quite sure we will go again next year. For both of my boys, this is the first large entertainment event they have ever attended, the youngest got a little bored, but the eldest was mesmerized the entire three hours like in a trance.

Folks, this is one fine group of musicians and extras that if given the opportunity, should not be missed. Youngsters, young adults, mid-agers, old gray folks like me, they are for everybody. I was simply blown away.

Not to mention that they are not the traditional rock act, they have a meet and greet session after every concert back stage and are as open and human as you'd ever find (plus the lassies are beautiful). And on top of that, they usually donate 10% of the gate to a local ministry. A class act! I did not get home until well after one Saturday morning. :applause::medals:

They perform here once a year
although i have never seen them
a good friend always goes every year and would not miss it

Yep, I am big fan of TSO, having meet and or played with some of the musicians in the group when they were in their earlier bands before TSO. I was/am a big Savatage fan, the band Jon Oliva (one of the TSO founders) used to sing for and remember vividly when his brother Criss died from a car accident in 96.

I get a kick out of main stream audiences enjoying their work despite the style of music many of them played in their earlier bands, BIG difference for some.

Here is my fav Savatage song with Jon Oliva singing and you can hear some of the influences in TSO as well even though it is a bit more rock and heavier

Cazzie - it sounds like you had a great time and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra sounds great in the videos too.

Correct me where I'm wrong. TSO is not actually a SINGLE group of musicians, but multiple groups that travel and perform. I would presume these different groups are under the direction/guidance/license/whatever of a producer or group. Perhaps franchised?

They do vary the concert orchestra, generally using the local city's concert members. They have a traveling troop of ladies that sing, but can and have used children's coral groups, when very good ones are available.

The bulk of the band consists of three guitarists, one bass guitarist, two keyboards and effects, two violinists (the lady is terrific), and a drummer, with one black narrator and one black male singer that is tremendous.

The first half of the show is all Christmas, the second half can be described as Pink Floyd plays the Classics. :d
