TRansfering .xca files

Barnstorm

"Molon Labe"
I know I have done this in the past, I have done a "search" here for the key words, but I seem to have for gotten the exact procedure for coping my controllers .xca files from one CFS3 app to another
(ETO to PTO), so I don't have to re-install all the button commands. I am running Win7-64.

I know I go to C:\Users\ME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\CFS3 XXX

Copy and paste to the appropriate folder.

My ? is, do I need to delete files in the destination folder (the controllers have never been programmed in PTO before, so this in not an overwrite)?

I tried to do a simple copy/paste procedure and the custom name I made for the controllers showed up in the Control>dialog box drop down window....but the button assignments did not transfer... and when I tried to program the controller, CFS3 locked-up and I had to CTRL>ALT>DEL to TASKMAN to shut it down and restart it. I did run BDP Zapper after file transfer, but that had no effect.

There is a file in the Controller dialog box CFS3.xca, the default settings, but I don't think that should be deleted. I you can refresh my memory, I would be grateful.

I don't truly know the answer to this question, but on the occasions I've transferred over the controller (.xca) file with Vista, I had an existing file in the install, so I had to overwrite the file.
Perhaps you should create a "dummy" controller setup in the install you want to change. That is, create the name you want to use ("My Controls", for example) and simply empoly the default setup when asked to "save configuration as". Then, folllow the pathway to the .xca file you want to sue, copy it over, and overwrite.

:kilroy:Barnstorm, this really very simple.

Yes, go to C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft. Look in this Microsoft folder for the folder you want. Example: Combat Flight Simulator 3.0.

You will find a *.xca file already in there: CFS3.xca. This is the stock one.

If you have reprogrammed your contoller, you have probably renamed it as well. Look for the *.xca file that is NOT the one above. This is the one you want.

Right-click on it and do a Copy, back out of that folder one step, and look for folder for the install where you want to put this *.xca file. Example: Look in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft for the the folder named CFS3 ETO Expansion. SImply paste the file you just copied into this folder. You're good to go. Nothing to delete.

I hope this helps.:d
