Truk Lagoon

Couple of more Pics. Also I have a selected list of combatant and non-combatant vessels lost or damaged at Truk during "Operation Hailstone" if anyone is interested let me know and I'll scan it as well.

I don't get into CFS2 any more but could not resist this thread. Truk Lagoon has always been a place of interest to me. One of my favorite Uncles growing up, saw his first battle action there as part of the crew on a fleet oiler. I have this book by William H. Stewart, named: "Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon". Attached are some maps and pics from the book which may or may not help someone here.

:welcome:T Square in the cfs2 house and thanks for these pics, there are precious by their indications and they'll surely help for who want rebuilt a little more the lagoon ,the bases and for the mission builders.

Suggest you guys do a Goggle search of Operation "Hailstone". Hailstone was the code name assigned by the Navy for the operation to nutralize Turk that took place on 17 & 18 of Feburary, 1944, carried out by Task force 58. It is very interesting with a lot of side stories, for example the the I-169 which put 2 torpedos into the Yorktown at during Midway was sunk there. Over 60 Japanese ships were sunk here and over 200 aircraft destroyed, including Emilys, Bettys, Zeros, Rufes, Mavis, Kates, Vals, Jakes, and Rex. Task Force 58 consisted of 10 Carriers, 10 Crusiers and 6 Battleships. When "Hailstone" was completed Truk was basicly left to starve

I vote to try to keep the number of add-on arcraft as low as possible - eg. Wolfi's SB2C and maybe a couple more :wavey:

Oh, and can I do anything more to help with the mission building?

...anything about voting? And what's this 'we' stuff? It was an invitation. :costumes:

that could be difficult to vote for :monkies:
So a 'Hamps' MULTI LOD is :welcome:, thanks Tango :friday:

Well, I already had Jimko's Pacific textures installed. I copied and pasted Ribbon Reef in \AtollTruk\texture and in \Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\texture. In the Atoll Truk folder there is a total of eight .bmp's counting the Lagoon.bmp's that were already there. Is this correct? At this point, the scenery shows this way in the attached pic of Moen.

I was seeing the same thing as dvslats posted in his screenshot. I went back in, posted the lagoon1 and lagoon2 as JB instructed above. I even deleted the filelist.dats on each folder just in case and started the game in FF. No joy, I got the same results as before... dvslats colored patchwork. Oh well... I can live with the stock atol scenery and the Pactex textures. :wiggle:

:faint:
I've missed to include in the readme a chapter, could be called step 0, the first rule for these sceneries ,built with G2k ,works in cfs2,like Malta ,SDC's global, Baleares and .....:kilroy: .....that's all
if you don't ever have these sceneries installed ,you don't surely do this in your game....

step 0:
Copy all your ....Combat Flight Simulator 2\SCENEDB\world\texture
...all the texture files of the folder
in your
.....Combat Flight Simulator 2\TEXTURE folder.

sorry since the first Malta scenery when I've do it,the sdc global and Baleares works so naturally with ....so I've completly forgetten this step....:173go1:

Truk is...

... a promising location for some interesting missions. Lots of interesting side stories...like the Kingfisher pilot who landed to rescue downed US crews, picked up so many he could not get airborne again, continued to taxi around the lagoon gathering more and more until finally a US sub made a rendezvous and took them all out after sinking the Kingfisher. :applause:

The reality of Operation Hailstone is that it was pretty much like shooting fish in a barrel for the US. The 200 Jap aircraft destroyed were mostly on the ground, and most of those were still in crates unassembled. AAA was the enemy and it brought down or damaged about 25 US planes. Only two warships were actually sunk in Truk lagoon, the rest of the 56 being small marus. The other warships sunk were outside the lagoon running for Japan, or in the process of returning to Truk. By the second day of Hailstone, US aircraft were for all practical purposes unopposed. And I suppose that is the reason little has really been written about it. :engel016:

That was IT!!! :Banane57:Thank you for following up on this Jean Bomber! Looks Beautiful. This time I will save notes instead of...I'll remember that. Just need a few texture changes on my end and she will be good to go. :woot:

Oh yeah! That did it. I thought I had placed those textures but then realized I had only done it on my XP desktop system  and not on my new laptop.

Sorry I have no screenshot to post (see the FRAPS thread for details on that)... at least not yet.

The scenery IS beautiful! :applause:

There's no airfields on Truk... or are there... my airfield list doesn't show Truk anywhere... did I miss something in the installation? Heck, I can't even FIND Truk LOL!:help:

The airfields are listed under their individual names. One is Moen, the rest I just can't remember :isadizzy:

Sorry to unbury this, but...

I got my Truk up and going... but it's all nasty green squares... and I'm pretty sure I DL-ed everything I needed to get it to work... what's missing?

It's a beautiful scenery - kudos to Jean Bomber! It is so detailed that VFR navigation is very practical using actual charts! "Hailstone" "Missions are coming along -
