TULAGI base needed

rep

i cant place a Mavis not even one due to the tremendous FPS impact. One Mavis actually cuts the FPS in half from 60 to below 30!!!!a real shame.

ATt JAGDFLIEGER

the alphhasim model is a killer. The Bhudda model with one Emily present brings down the fps from 30 to 20 and down to 14 with 2 stationed therefore unacceptable since you need to consider other objects flying about when playing a mission.I looked here under piglet but he has no mavis or emily in his library, where can i download it from for a test?
dog1

If you can`t find it let me know and I will try to get my copy to you.I have one and tested it and with seven of them on the water I only lost about 10FPS and that was with the player aircraft mixed in.:d

Should Piglets object be FPS friendly members will need a sight to download it from, after that i'm uploading,

It's at the larger sim sites.

Try:

avsim.com

flightsim.com

Search for:

h6k5mavis.zip

mavis_fix.zip

UPDATE:

I did some checking in my screen shot library and found that the Alphasim model has nearly double the frame rates of Piglet's FSDS V1 Mavis. It looks like the Alphasim model would be the way to go for your Tulagi scenery.

Here are some shots of Piglet's Mavis stationed on a Pacific atoll.

flightsim and avsim dont have this file,i'll test again alphasim or upload without.

Great pics. Look forward to it.

BTW during battle of coral sea, only MAvis were present at the base. US pilots maneged to smoke some of them in early stage of the battle.
Rufes presence were noticed only by the time of landing on Guadalcanal.

One of the first things we did at the begining of the Coral Sea Battle was atack Tulagi with SBD's covered by F4F3's. The F4's encountered Pete's. A rather nasty suprise for them they recounted later. Its the first mission in my old Coral sea mission pack 1. Unfortunately I used rufes because of some eronius info I ran acrossed. Its one of the things I will address when I redo all those missions.

I have not included 4 engined aircraft in my scenery for FPS reasons.the excuse is "they where were out that day".Uploading scenery now with the new Usioh Marus.

Hi Dog1
Just downloaded your Tulagi seaplane base. The pictures look fantastic but is there meant to be a GSL file included? I was unable to open the two "Readme" files, even when I deleted the "x" from the ".docx" files.
Thanks,
Kevin

Acorrdingly to my source, first attack on Tulagi base took place on 4th of May 1942 8.15h with force of 11 TBD's-1 and 28 SBD's-3 (Yorktown). No fighter escort. In Tulagi base were at the moment 6 MAVIS. Weren't damaged. US pilot maneged to destroy 1 IJN destroyer ("Kikizuki") and small minesweeper.

The second attack, few hours later (27 SBD's 11 TBD's and 4 F4's escort) maneged to destroy 2 MAVIS flaying boats.
Remaining Mavis (4) were attacked by the other 4 F4's sended for it lately that day. 3 were damaged. Only one survived that day. 2 F4's had to belly land on water due to lack of fuel.

BTW No petes were present at the Solomons at that time. Accordingly to J.Lundstrom "The First South Pacyfic Campaign" 25nd Koku Sentai in Rabaul had only 8 A6M2-N Rufe.

But like you say, and I agree, that can be one of the "eronius" infos. No way to tell.

Great Dog1...

... I already got it. No time today to install and fly but will try out tomarrow.:jump:... or later as spare time will allow:d

Keep them comin':ernae:

I did a Coral Sea Mission pak years ago and according to my sources it was the first encounter with Pete's at Tulagi. The Pete's were attacking the Yorktown strike force and 4 x F4F's were than sent to deal with them.

Talon

Talon, your'e right...

Checked link to US Navy Central Intelligence narratives and there's mencioned presence of few japanese "single-float" planes. 3 were shot down.

I've also found, in my library list of 25th koku-sentai planes from mid.1942 (August). 6 F1M were present. Think, if they had them in Solomons in 42 they shoulded have them one year early.

OK I shall quote from one of my sources "Queen of the Flatops" by Stanely Johnson. This author was a war correspondent on the Lexington at the time of the Coral Sea battle. He interveiwed the pilots involved.I quote

1."Part of the reason for the failure of the Torpedo plane attack was the bold interferance of a Jap seaplane fighter. Its pilot dived in amongst the torpedo planes, turning and firing in all directions to divert them.Several scouts pounced on the Jap plane but found it so manuverable and so well flown that although they were three to one the unequal fight went on for minutes before a burst of fire finally downed it.

This Jap plane crash-landed near an island. The pilot tried to climb out of his cockpit but slumped dead or unconscious. The rear gunner [Rufes had no rear gunner] jumped overboard and was last seen making a strong wake as he sped ashore in what was unquestionably a world swimming record."

2."The fighter pilots Found three Japanese Float Biplane fighters in the air."

I also have info from another source that Ensign Elbert S. McCusky reported encountering Pete's.

Have a good one

Thanks Blondi

I'll have to get some of original US articles and contemporary books like Johnson's one. Most of my library are compilations, often translated and not so accurate as expected.

Greetings
