Two items about Flightsim.com

First off I apologize if this is not news but when did FSPilotshop start charging to reactivate download links for purchased products. I just got done re-installing FSX and was going to re-download some pay-ware purchases and they wanted 5.00 dollars each to re-activate the download links. Item 2 is 5 minutes ago when i went to flightsim.com to check new releases my anti-virus blocked an intrusion attempt by Blackhole toolkit. Luckily I was able to dig around and find the original installers for what I needed but wanted to re-download in case they had been updated. I understand it costs money to run a site but charging someone to re-activate a link when I have downloads remaining is in my opininon ridiculous. Sorry for rant, end of rant.

Not trying to be a pain, but DVDs cost about $.30 to $.40 a piece. It takes about five minutes to burn a full DVD, 10 minutes if you verify the write.

I won't offer any opinions about FSPilotshop, other than my products are no longer sold there, nor will any of my products ever be sold there in the future.

But as a developer, I have to say that being considered as a backup storage area for people who don't consider their purchases valuable enough to backup, doesn't fall into my description of the duties involved. I have sold some large downloads in the past and will probably do so in the future. When I setup the download files for the customers I spend a fair amount of time sizing the files properly, just so they can be easily burnt to a DVD for future reinstalls.

While it could be argued that there is little cost involved in reactivating links, there is still time and effort. And for some products out in the FS community, the time spent downloading a second, third or more times will be far greater than what would have been spent making a CD or DVD backup.

So save yourself a little aggravation in the future, make a backup or two. Then think about not having to endure FSPilotshop and let that smile come out... :jump:

you are right small aggravation but still was a suprised, this occured yesterday with downloads and was just going to blow it off but the having an intrusion attempt while checking for new uploads is what po'ed at the time. You have a great day as well
