• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Two lucky pilots... mid-air....

i was listening to my scanner last night when this occured..i heard a mayday..then silence..several pilots were trying to get the male voice to respond...then someone came on the air and said two aircraft were down....about 10 minutes later a local sacramento news tv station did a breaking news report...
 
Daveroo - are you using a scanner, or an app on your phone or computer?

Sometimes on the Saturdays I have a coffee at Starbucks and watch GA traffic at a local airport. It would be fun to listen to the planes talk to the tower.
 
i use both..when home in the RV i use the scanner..or when i go to the resturant at the auburn airport..i take my handheld scanner and listen to the unicom...but i have an app too "live ATC" is the one i have..it works well for the major airports.maybe someone else has a better app?
 
well i have an iphone..and i think it was free.....i believe it will work on an android..but i dont know for certin...have to check yourself i suppose
 
FYI

The news reports says that the Helo pilot was a student. Well sort of, she was a helicopter student pilot but she has a airplane commercial license.

Maybe her training helped her get out alive.

Daveroo-thanks! I found it in the app store...they have it for the iPhone too. You can go to their website and check to see if they transmit what ever airport you are interested in. Pretty cool. I'll get it this weekend.
