• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

U.S. Attorney’s Office 07/09/2012/ get ready

ive told some friends about this, and i used www.mcafee.com/dnscheck to test my system, but several of my "friends" ( im questioning that friendship) are complaining now, saying i want to let the FBI help themselves to thier computers, this was in chat last night,,,i repeted "no no no" over and over several times...and just gave up...told them..do NOT call me monday if your computer cant get online....i wont answer the phone!

I don't know if it is related or not, but for the past few days my internet connection has been very spotty and intermittent. I've even had trouble connecting to my comcast.net mail server...

This morning, it was so bad that I started trying to discover just what was going on. I updated Microsoft Security Essentials, and ran a scan...

MSSE found and quarantined two trojans and two viruses. After rebooting, my development computer began a Mobieus Loop of loading the Desktop, then popping up an error box "Windows has detected a problem and will close in one minute..."

Oops! I finally shut the system down, waited a few minutes then did a cold boot into Windows Safe Mode w/ Networking, then tried to run a System Restore to Wednesday's restore point. Received a notice that the restore failed. Tried again to last Friday's restore point. Received same notice that the restore failed... <SIGH>

Did a cold boot, Windows Vista booted up to Desktop... a few minutes later received a notice that the restore to last Friday was successful! WTF? Oh well, at least the darn thing is working again!

So far after five continuous hours of use, both email and internet seems back to normal. I sorta feel like this: :mix-smi:

EDIT: I just checked and when I "google search" I no longer get the Portugese language page...

I was hit.... Im not sure WTF to do now.

Well, besides reformat (or nuke) your rig and start from scratch I would:

1. dump all of your internet files and cookies.

2. download CCleaner AKA crapcleaner and run that.

3. download malwarebytes and update it (but DO NOT RUN IT YET)

4. If you have an antivirus make sure it is up to date.

5. reboot to safe mode. (Reboot computer and press F8 key before it fully loads windows)

6. run a full virus scan.

7. run malwarebytes.

Heads Uo, Folks -- PC MALWARE THREAT

Heads up, Folks -- MALWARE WARNING

Got the following note from my cousin earlier today, confirmed its validity with him. There was also a segment on CTV National News about it so it appears to be legit. CHECK YOUR SYSTEMS:

Hello All,
FYI. CNN and others have been warning about a malware virus that will activate on July 9

Here is the CNN link to check your Windows computer.

www.dns-ok.us

I've checked mine and the background of the screen icon is green, not infected. Red means you are infected.

If I'm recalling right this bug has been activate for a long time but a few Govs have set somethings up to keep the PC that have it working but they are now shouting down...

Namely the US government...

I'm safe :D But with my stringent scanning and safe usage, I knew that :D

keep in mind, those of you who love system restore, that some of the nastiest of malware loves to hide in your system restore, and will re spawn itself from there, or your registry.
