When I first started this I thought all I would need to do would be to replace the LW P-40. Silly me. It turned out to be a lot more involved and besides which, I got carried away and produced 4 more missions.

This is an updated (January 2016) add
on collection of the American missions flown on Dec 7th for the PHP2 scenery set and PHP ships by the Pearl Harbor Project and the Pearl Missions and PHP aircraft packages by Talon.

Crashaz posted an updated PHP2 scenery package recently. The PHP2 Scenery updates have necessitated this Pearl Harbor American Missions upgrade in order for the missions to continue to work because most of the airfields were renamed and renumbered in the upgraded scenery.

Dombral also released an add-on scenery layout with additional details and static use aircraft. A separate missions package is included in this package that uses his layouts by request of EisnerMarkus. It includes its own Readme instructions document.

The majority of Talon’s missions are from the Japanese side and only a couple of them are from the American side. That gave me the opportunity in my original American Missions release to create 6 more historical missions that were flown by American pilots during the December 7th attack.

Since I was updating my old missions I decided to add 3 new additional missions covering one Army, one Navy and one civilian experience on December 7[SUP]th[/SUP]. Yes, civilians were flying private planes over Oahu that day and 5 of them were shot down.

As a bonus there is also a sightseeing tour around the island in a Hawaiian Airlines DC-3 to see all of the PHP2 scenery So, now there are 10 total missions in this set.

In my original release, the Lindsey Watt P-40 model was used but it is no longer available. Bearcat241 and RobH gave me permission to package the Thorsen P-40B and Rob’s Pearl Harbor skins together and include them in this package. They have a modified airfile to closer match the performance of the real aircraft.

UncleTgt and Blood_Hawk23 gave me permission to include their Piper L4 Grasshopper in this package. I have repainted it as a J-3 Cub and modified the cfg and dp file to match.

I have added a new fire effect, new dp’s for the USN battleships so they burn dramatically when hit, a tweaked SBD skin, a silver Hawaiian Airlines livery FDG2 DC-3 skin, and some adjusted aircraft flight files.

I had to rebuild the Bellows Airfield scenery because the original runway and blended texture floated some 400 feet above the ground. It looks OK from high up but it doesn’t work when you are close to the ground.

The Honolulu civil airport – John Rodgers Airfield - was not part of in the PHP scenery so I have created it and included it here. It was right next to Hickam Airfield.

Hello Kurt!

Thank you for these missions! They came as a very pleasant surprise for me, as I have just installed the new Pearl Harbor scenery and Dombral´s layouts!
I ran into a small problem, which I was able to solve: Taylor and Welch´s First Mission Dom wouldn´t start, giving me a message about a corrupted mission file.
I opened the mission file, and after some looking found the cause of the problem: At the end of the file, you added the P-40 Welch. It had the same unit type number, 70, as the entry above it. When I changed the number to 71 the mission started ok.
When I flew it, it turned out to be a very bad day for the Vals: We got them all!

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang

Ich bin ein Dumbkopf! :mixed-smiley-027:

Thank you for catching that. I will send Rami a corrected mission file to put into the download.

Kurt,

As requested, I took care of this for you. Incredible work on the package, well done! :biggrin-new:

Great work. I like the Tourist Tour with the DC 3. Did you make a Update of Talon`s japanese Missions or what If Missions with the New P 40?

I like the PEarl Missions with RAF Muttlys Flak Effekts. Flak Clouds are very Long to see in the Sky :), but more Japanese Planes are Shot down from San Francisco and Other Ships :(.
Thanks to Rami, Captain Kurt, crashez and all other Modders. The PHP Project is one of my favourite Missions and Campaigns in CFS 2

Hi EisnerMarkus

I'm glad you like he update and new missions. But no, I won't update Talon's missions. He's no longer with us to give permission and it would be disrespectful to tamper with the work he left us. His P-40 at Pearl mission will work with the new P-40s as the folder names are the same. The "what if" campaign uses P-40E's not the earlier B/C models, so no update needed there.

Great job Captain Kurt,

Actually Talon redid the P-40 Pearl mission because the LW P-40 was not around anymore,he used the same one as Captain Kurt. He never had a chance to upload. As for the Pearl What If it uses the LW P-40e.

I have a question. If you install the new updates to Pearl will Talon's missions be effected?I did testing for him and he told me whenever he added anything he had to redo certain parts of the missions to get them to work right again.

The Bookie

No, Talon's missions are uneffected. Dombral's package is a set of 3 layouts. So they aren't a permanent part of the scenery.

  • One for just some additional harbor scenery objects
  • One for the harbor scenery additions with the ships in the harbor and aircraft on the airfields just prior to the attack
  • One for the harbor scenery additions with the damaged and sunken ships in the harbor, aircraft on the airfields and smoke/fire just after the attack

Again, these are layouts, not gsl. They have to be included in a mission file by placing them with the Mission Builder. If you tried to create a gsl file for the Dombral layouts and add it to the island scenery, they would overwrite the PHP2 scenery gsl's and the PHP2 scenery would disappear. That's why I have alternate missions using Dombral's layouts. I had to delete the scenery objects in the original mission files and rebuild them with Dombral's layout scenery.

What are the best Effects for Smoke and Fire on Ships for very good pearl harbour Screens ( black smoke and long Smoke/fire )?

I have Plans for a AAR on American and japanese Side based on Talons PHP Missions and What if Missions with good Screens befor and after the 2 japanese Waves

ElsnerMarkus

Just install the ship dp files that are part of this package. They are already modified to provide long lasting and bigger fires with more smoke. :encouragement:
