Updated SdC's GSL London scenery object locations uploaded!

Happy Easter to everybody!

With Simonu's Thames river extension pack, some of Sander de Cocq's beta London GSL landmarks do not fit the river banks correctly anymore.

Hoping no one else did it already, I took the liberty of repositioning slightly just the following buildings (GSL objects):

  • the Big Ben with the close by Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace
  • City Hall, which faces the Big Ben on the other side of the Thames
  • London Tower and Bridge
  • the Naval Hospital
All you'll need to do is keeping SdC's library install of his GSL London landmark objects, remove his London GSL gob from your cfs2.gsl file, uninstall his London Thames area lanclass, which doesn't fit Simonu's Thames, and add my updated gobs to your cfs2.gsl.

Included is a flatten switch to add to your scenery.cfg, in case you are using all recently released Rhumbaflappy's world/cfs2 mesh files. In the area where the Naval Hospital lays, the Thames river bank raises steeply, causing the Hospital to hang halfway in thin air. A small flatten switch added to your scenery.cfg entry for Sander's London GSL objects, takes care of this visual problem.

Obviously, this addon does not pretend to create an accurate WWII-era London scenery. It merely adjusts a few buildings to fit Simonu's Thames river better.

It's just a quick and temporary solution to utilise further the original work done by Sander de Cocq. I am sure someone will soon come up with a much more accurate London scenery than this "pro tempore" (for the time being) solution.

 Oh no!...someone caught me flat-hatting again! :costumes:

Enjoy!

Thank you so much, Kelti. I will install these immediately! :ernae:

But where might I find the original files?

.....But where might I find the original files?

Oh, boy....

are you telling me Sander's site is still unreachable?

At this point, I don't think Sander would object greatly to re-uploading his London GSL beta pack here at the House, would he?

Cheers!

Hi all,

if there are several members who missed the opportunity to download Sander de Cocq's London beta GSL scenery, I am willing to re-upload the pack here, and exclusively here, at SOH.

I believe Sander is still a staff member, so in case he wouldn't agree to this, he can always take the pack off the d/l queue.

All credits for creating better looking London landmarks are all his, anyway. I would be only the re-uploading agent.

I also want to report a typo in my description above and in the upload readme:

behind the Big Ben lay Westminster Abbey and The Treasury, Buckingham Palace is a little over to the West of there. Sorry for the mistake.

Cheers!

Si Si Si !!!

Ciao, Stefano;

I lost most of my d/l'd Sander's files in a hard drive meltdown last year... if you would upload his London, that would complete my BoB / Normandy install, and I can move on to North Africa !!

Molto Grazie, Bello !
