Updating to P3DV5.1 from Version 5?

Ok, I read a post on a different forum where a guy had simply copied folders from his V5 installation to V5.1, and all was well vs uninstalling all aircraft / addons etc...., which I do NOT want to do if the aforementioned process will work?

What say you guys? Advice? Thanks, NC

I found the post I referred to. It was on a AVSIM forum:

Hey guys,
Looks like LM did make a huge update with 5.1. So many things added/fixed it. It looks like a full clean reinstall on my end.
But here is the kicker, I just drag all the external addons from their locations like Prepar3d v5 Add-ons to another directory and then Uninstall P3D, clean all it's default directory locations. Clean install Prepar3d and just drag those addons back into the main directory.
I literally save tons and tons of time by doing simple process. Orbx works that way, A2A, FSUIPC, Maddog X, FSLabs, FSReborn, FSDT, AIG etc work that way and so many others.
Save Time, life is short
I will call out PMDG and Flightbeam (I do not get these guys, the scenery config uses addon method external but files get installed to root sim why!!!) - Installing all flightbeam airports (have them all) takes extra time when that time can be saved.

Please call your devs and ask them why your fav addon is not externally installed now - we are now at v5.1 - time for excuses is over

Seriously e!!!save time

Navy Chief, it's the same as with previous point release versions. Just uninstall the V5.0 Client, Content, and Scenery from Add/Remove Programs, and then reinstall them individually. (When it asks you whether you want to deactivate the installation, say 'no.')

When you install the 5.1 Client, you'll need to make sure to point it to the same folder as your previous install. The others will find it automatically.

Don't uninstall the "Prepar3d v5 Academic" entry, just the other three.

Do it that way and all your add-ons, settings, etc. from v5 will be intact and working just fine. The Avsim clean install recommendation is overkill.

This way works perfectly for me.

Hi

Semi stupid question

Would that work from P3D V4.5 --> to V5.1 ( new purchase) as well ?

Only as I have 6000+ planes and liverys and ORBY

Best regards

Roland

Roland,

That won't work. v5(.1) is a different application. You needed a new license didn't you?
On the other hand you can have both installed if you have ample diskspace. Once installed you can add the v4 addon's to v5 if you want to do that, but not all are compatible.

Regards,

Jan

Thanks

So all down that road again

Too bad, but OK
I suspended go B5-->V4.5 works very well-->I have MSFS2020, but that has way to go ( stunning scenery, poor, just Garmin or EICAS cockpit planes-->Ultrapoor FDE ) so I am tempted to go V5
Lets see

Does anybody know how much space V5 needs w/o the extras?

Thanks

Roland
