what was the use of the SM79 in the ANR and ICAF? Was it just used transport duty?

The ICAF and Luftwaffe used it in the transport role. It also equipped the ANR's only bomber unit, operated over Anzio and some in Greece IIRC in addition to the Gibraltar raid mentioned above.

The unit number is listed in the name of the download the the Regia Aeronautica versions, the ANR skin is from "Gruppo Buscaglia", while the ICAF and Luftwaffe ones are from unknown transport units. I don't have better information than that right now. If you really want to know, you could contact the painter, Manuele Villa (mvg3d) here. He might have more info. Thanks for your interest!
