US Cities X Niagara Falls

Eoraptor1

SOH-CM-2022
I live in Niagara Falls, New York and was wondering if anyone here had purchased aerosoft's US Cities X package for Niagara Falls and Buffalo. Is it worth the money? Does it turn your flight sim into a slide show because of a framerate hit. I see quite a few buildings in the aerosoft sample pics. To view go HERE: http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/us/iboshop.cgi?showd,,D11212

The Hard Rock Cafe had its free concert series this summer for its 40th anniversary, and I went to most of the shows. They were very nice non-violent events with actual musicians instead of digital playback. (Not gonna open that can of worms.) You're not really supposed to bring cameras or video recorders to the Hard Rock concert area, but everyone does. I don't even know why they would have that rule in Niagara frakking Falls. Anyway, here are some pics of the actual Falls I took this summer in between bands. I walked from the stage area to the Falls park and snapped away. I'm no Panther, but I post them anyway for your enjoyment.

James,

I was born there as well! I spent my formative years in Sanborn (head out on Lockport Road down to just past Rt. 429 - 2425 Raymond Road) and Akron, near Batavia. If I would have known you lived out there, I would have had a few brews with you last summer!

Rami,

You should have come out to the Hard Rock and seen Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Unfortunately, I'm no longer supposed to eat the food in your pictures, and I can't really drink more than two beers on the evening any more. I remember when I could down a six-pack before I went out on the weekends, and not even feel it! I used to have a roommate from Sanborn (I've had LOTS of roommates) and it turned out we were sweet on the same girl. He was taller and better looking than me, but I'm insanely strong in the Force!!!

Supposedly, with the aerosoft scenery package, you can fly your ultralight right into the gorge, which I wouldn't recommend in real life, or take off from the helipad where the old Howard Johnson's used to be. You can see all this stuff on Google Earth. I would really like a nice Niagara Falls scenery option, but it's not worth it if it kills my frames to the point where I can't use it.

I have US Cities X Niagara Falls and it looks and performs great. In fact I was shocked that for all the eye candy it still gave much better frame rates than basic Orbx PNW cities do!

Thanks, Mike. That's what I wanted to know.

I lived in Port Colbourne Ontario and visited Niagara many many times as it was a short drive from our house...needless to say I was disappointed in the default FSX experience...

are there any user screenshots of this addon?

If you think the default FSX Niagara Falls area is bad, you don't want to know how much they messed up Vancouver Island. Let's just say that the photographs taken from the International Space Station show much more detail than Microsoft included. I guess they didn't have access to Bing Maps back then; in fact it really looks like it was based on images from a toy globe!

My family reunion (I grew up in Buffalo around the corner from the intersection of Delaware and Delevan) was in Akron 2 weeks ago. I flew into Buffalo North Suburban Airport (the runway is terrible). As soon as I got there, climbed in a car and off to DUFF'S! I have to figure out how to get those guys to open a shop in Virginia (and Minnesota)! Nice to know there are some other Buffalonians on here.

Also nice to know Aerosoft Niagara Falls works well. Next on my list!

If you noticed, I also stopped by Switson's Beef and Keg in North Tonawanda for a Beef on Weck...you just can't get that here in chowda and lobsta land. (I also made sure to get a couple of garbage plates while I was out there, too!)

Oh...and here's an "aftermath" pic of the Duff's experience. I wasn't with my wife, so I didn't feel guilty about leaving the veggies for just this once...and you gotta love a restaurant that plops down a bucket to throw in your wings and napkins...:icon29:

I had been to the Anchor Bar a couple of times as well, the last time I was there I had the ultimate thrill of sharing a few beers and a couple of hours with Tim Russert...I have a picture in my office at the school where I teach of myself, Tim, Luke, and "Big Russ." He was one of those true genuine people who is the same when the cameras are off as they were when they were on and he was doing his day job.

I ended up using this pic for my laptop background...the lack of a bright backdrop makes it easier on the eyes...and to find files!

I am from Lancaster out in the suburbs, and own the Aerosoft Niagara/Buffalo X and it is outstanding! HSBC Arena, and all in Buffalo. Then of course you have the falls in all their magnificent detail. Even Marineland, and the casino's and such over on the Canadaian side (they do not have that new casino that is on the NY side however).

Alright then. I recently got the Niagara package as a surprise gift. I have it installed but haven't gotten around to tweaking it for performance. I also need to give the manual a good looking over. I doubt I'll get to do it today, as the glorious Buffalo Bills are playing Cinncinatti, but I'll post a review when I've had a chance to go through the package's features. All I'll sat for now is that it's a huge improvement over the stock scenery. So far, the only frame rate hit I get is from the Falls animation itself. More Later.
