Using Mission Builder to Create New Airfield?

Hi all,

Just for the heck of it, I created a separate install for the Just Flight Pearl Harbor add on. I removed all the stock PTO airfields, added the JF airfields and want to create a down and dirty version of Bellows Field, the only one JF did not include, using stock runways and infrastructure.

If I understand correctly, this can be done using mission builder (via CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+G - Enable GSL Editor), and saved as a GSL (again, with a special command: CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S - Save GSL file ).

My question is, can someone point me in the right direction to get started with this endeavor? Just a pet project is all, for learning purposes.

Thanks in advance,

TW

Typhoon Willy,

You can use that tool, or you can create a layout as you said in Mission Builder. The only think you'll need is an airbase.dat entry that will mark your takeoff spot. The best approach would be to use an existing one and modify both the coordinates and height, along with heading and other parameters.

The only two problems with that are...if the ground is not reasonably flat, you'll need a flatten, especially to avoid AI crashes, and unless you have an AFD file, you won't be able to use the airfield in free flight.

Hi guys,

Thanks again for the replies (and the files). So far, I have removed ALL the stock airfields per Rami's tutorials, and added the existing Just Flight airfields to the airbases.dat file so they show up in MB. Additionally, I have created my "down and dirty" Bellows Field and added it to the airbases.dat file as well. I do need to flatten the ground under the runway (I'm using the CFS1 concrete runway).

So, the next questions are what program is used to flatten this area and how do I create an AFD file and what do I do with it after its creation?

Thanks again,

TW
