USS Enterprise VF-10

Hellcat Squadron was on the Enterprise from November 1943,when she finished her refit, until the Marianas in the summer of 1944.By the time of Leyte VF-20 was on board.

The Campaign will just be Hellcat missions from a Campaign that was being worked on that you fly the Hellcat,Dauntless and Avenger.Others that do carrier campaigns also do this.It was requested that only one of the planes be used and since over half of the new missions were Hellcat missions that's the way to go.Because of this 2 historic missions will not be in it.One is the first night intercept from a carrier which had an Avenger with radar and 2 Hellcats go to intercept Betty bombers.Well it turns out the got split up and the Avenger shot down 2 Betty's.Butch O'Hare was also lost to friendly fire. The second is the first night ship attack at Truk where the Avengers used radar. There is a third thing-There will be less missions as the Campaign will end with the Marianas.

I know someone will say"Why doesn't he do different campaigns for each plane?"The answer is," my son is in high school and really doesn't have the time".He only does the missions on weekends as time allows.

As I said VF-20 was at the Philippines and Leyte but in January 1945 VF-90 replaced them as Enterprise became the first USN Night carrier.

Hiede,

I liked the idea of following a ship through it's War, but I guessed that concentrating on a particular Fighter Squadron (VF-10) would also work well as a Campaign narrative too. (y)

Just a pity it didn't seem to generate any discussion - not that much does here these days

UncleTgt,

I can see just doing a fighter campaign like what what was done from Guadalcanal.A Carrier campaign has a lot more to it to tell its story. All the planes worked together when attacking targets and that is what my son is showing in this campaign and there are times when just fighters are in a mission, but it's usually an intercept.

If this campaign was just fighters the first night intercept of Betty Bombers wouldn't be in it even though it had 2 Hellcats and 1 Avenger, the Hellcats didn't shoot down the planes the Avenger did. Also the night attack mission at Truk was done by Avengers. These were the first USN missions to use radar.

I also agree there isn't much discussion in here anymore. Most times when someone speaks up it's if something isn't the way they want it and then they complain. If you ask what they would like it falls on deaf ears. They will d/l it and not say a word.Guess they are part of the Woke generation and fell they are Entitled.

I generally prefer to use just one airplane type in my campaigns, but I see your point about telling the story of a carrier campaign.
I find that a certain amount of practice in the type of plane you are flying improves your performance, and that in turn makes for more enjoyment.
If I were to make a carrier campaign, I would probably split it in two or three parallel parts, one fighter, and one for dive- and torpedo bombers each.
But I realize this means more work, and time is always an issue. That's why it always takes me so long to finish my own projects... 😁

I am still a noob regarding mission bulding so a campaign is quite out of my range :dizzy: I am quite amazed by your son dedication Hiede, for the USN during WW2 there is so much to tell I would personaly feel a little overwhelmed. :dizzy:

Skylane,

My son has about 50 missions done and expects to add about 20 more, that makes it 70 missions. Now if he does it for each plane your talking about over 200 missions.Remember he only works on them on weekends because of school and sport activities.I think that is a little much for someone his age.The other thing is he is following the book"The Big E" which gives most of the info for the missions. He has links to other sources for what ships were in the Task Forces and Task Groups. The book only names certain ships in the TG Enterprise was in.

At Truk the fighters did intercept and escort missions in the beginning but after that it was the Avengers and Dauntless that did the damage. This is what he is showing in his missions. He is telling the story of The USS Enterprise and all the air groups and not just one.

I've followed what you have done in the Solomons and can see why you just do one plane. They did escorts for the bombers, intercepts and defense.I can understand that.

Look at the missions Talon did.In the Solomons he used just 1 plane in most of them-a Wildcat,Corsair,P-38 and a P-40.When he did Carrier missions he used all the planes from the carriers.

Now you may not agree with this but remember a mission and campaign builder should the tell the story the way they see it.No bad feelings I hope just my opinion.

Ludo,
Yes I know you're new to mission building and seem to enjoy it.As you learn more you will probably expand your work.Writing a campaign will take time, you can ask people that have made them.Try making a short one,I did one of 3 missions a while back and it is in one of my posts.I just did it to see if I could.
Just have fun.

Hiede,
I absolutely understand your point, and I appreciate the amount of work necessary to do such a project. And yes, telling the story of a ship, this is probably the best way to do it.
