It will be nice to have some more early generation carriers to fly early jets onto. Thank you for the work put into this.

There's already a good Leyte and Yorktown straight deck carrier by Michael Davies for WWII and early jet work - I like doing Korea ops in the Vertigo F9F Panther with these.

Would very much like though a eg. Hancock, Shangra La angled deck for Vietnam era (A3, A4, F8) as well.

A 1967-69 (Vietnam) vintage Hancock would be outstanding. The Shangri-La was just about on her last legs by 1969.

Well I got fed up adding these lights to Ark in MCX so I've started on Midway. I'll create a new thread for her in about a week once I've got the basic model in place with some decent screenshots to show progress, as I'll have lots of questions for our esteemed US navy experts on this site as the model progresses.

i'm building a common texture set and components which will also be used for the mods I'll be making to the basic Oriskany model I uploaded last year. I'll run these mods in parallel as midway progresses to create some more Essex classes (texture permissions permitting). Oriskany V2 and Hancock will be first...followed by others.

ill also see if I can call in a favour to create some textures for HMS Hermes which has been languishing on my hard drive for some time now.

Gary, thank you for your efforts. Anything you come up with will be a welcome addition to the FSX carrier world, I'm sure.

Any way a version can be released with a clear deck?

Russ

I prefer my models to be populated with aircraft and crew. But I generally complete the carrier model first then add crew etc later, so I don't see there being an issue in me uploading a beta version with a clear deck (which can also be used to test the model by others) before I finish it off.

I definitely like the details of a populated carrier. However, the only issues I run into are the static Sailors... It's hard to taxi around a shipmate who neither marshals you around the deck nor moves out of the way. :wiggle::wavey::wiggle:

Gary

Gary,
I've been off the grid for the last two weeks - thanks for the update! Looking forward to both Midway and additional Essex class carriers.
Cheers.

Any news on the further work on Essex class carriers? Hankering for an Intrepid for some SEA ops!

Updates to my original Oriskany release, and subsequent additional Essex class carriers are plodding along slowly in the background. I still don't have permission to use certain textures from another developer so my plan B if I don't get permission is to complete another carrier i'm working on and re-use the texture set to complete the Essex class updates. Some of you fellas from across the pond might recognize her:

It's based on how she looked in the early to mid 70's....not 100% accurate but close enough. Model is 90% complete and i'm starting to work on the texture set. To say i'm an amateur when it comes to creating textures (or models for that matter) is an understatement so between that and work getting in the way it's taking a little longer than I planned to complete but hopefully have something in the next three weeks for peops to experiment with.

Cheers

Just wondering which Hermes it was you have in the works Gary? either would be a great edition to Fsx

This one: :)

Hermes Build1.jpgHermes Build2.jpg

I originally had it as a traditional flat top for my skysim Sea Vixen.....and then Flying Stations released Victorious so I quickly scrubbed that. However I figured I may as well finish it in her '82 config so she could be used with the Invincible 82 model I built.....then I could have a virtual task force!

If need be I can quickly change her back to her 60's config as all I need to do is delete the ramp and retexture the deck (plus a few minor tweaks to the superstructure)...but i'm hoping skippy et al release a Hermes version before then (hint hint!)

Cheers
G
