Wouldn't a Grumman Tiger be the next logical aircraft to be modelled?..taking the Grumman navy fighter range to the next step.

While the model doesn't match the detail of what I've seen in Vertigo's F6F, the Tiger has been modeled in FSX native format already.

For fans of 50's Navy jets, these guys are already available in payware, FSX-native models:
Grumman F11F Tiger - Alphasim
McDonnell F2H Banshee - Razbam
McDonnell F3H Demon - Alphasim
Douglas F4D Skyray - Alphasim
Vought F7U Cutlass - Alphasim

Given that, I'd hope that Vertigo would hit planes we haven't seen in detailed FSX-native models yet. For Navy fighters, off the top of my head, that includes:
FH-1 Phantom (Paul Clawson has a very nice freeware Phantom, but it's pretty basic)
FJ-1 Fury
FJ-2/3/4 Fury
F5D Skylancer (okay, I admit, the market for this is probably just me. :) )
F8U Crusader

Hi!
That's a great news!
I love the Panther and, may be it'd help a certain "USS Essex" carrier project to start again...:kilroy:

Regarding the secret projects, I would say Crusader!! :jump: ... oh?!? With a F8U, a class Essex carrier will be needed too!! ... Michael if read me....:bump:

Looks good, and keep counting those rivets. They do mean something to us who like, and will pay for fine detail and quality, Thanks.

The wing fence looks like its on the wrong side of the wing fold.

Depending on the model (-2 or -5?) rudder needs a split in it for the elevator.

Your model has a very rounded blend between the wing and the body, but on the F9F, it was a very sharp line.

This could be a mesh smoothing issue or smoothing groups are wrong.

Also just a few personal critiquest's, I think the fillet between the body and the canopy needs a little bit more refining, and the rounded edges on the trailing edges of the wings needs to go. The intakes need a little bit more attention and refinement. Just my 2 cents.

These web pages should help your modeler a great deal.

Overall, its a good model! Just needs a little refinement to make it a great model! :ernae:

According to all my Grumman photos, most Panthers did not have wing strakes. However, upon further investigation, I see a few planes did have them...interesting. I have not been able to find any info on why some had them, and others did not. It does not seem to be connected to the model, dash 2 or dash 5. I've seen them on both and I've seen both without them. Small point I guess...lol

Dean,
I have quite a few Grumman pictures of both the Panther and Cougar. If you would like to see them for reference, PM me with your email.

I don't normally go for this type of aircraft in FS, but the Panther and the two-seat Cougar 8T are going to be rather difficult to resist. If the old adage 'If it looks right, it flies right' holds true, they must have been a pilot's dream. Two of the nicest looking machines to come out of that period, without a doubt

What with these and Mr. Conrad's Skyraider, the vintage American carrier decks are starting to fill up nicely.

If only we had a vintage American carrier with an angled deck.

Hey Dan, you know Razbam has a nice Banshee, FSX native?

First FSX native payware I ever bought.

Given that, Vertigo's efforts are better spent on the F8U Crusader and FJ-1 Fury. :)

I forgot. I have it in the back of the 'hangar'. :redf:

Yep. Forgot about the Tiger. :redf: That would make sense.

Like someone sang once, "What a drag it is gettin' old"... I think someone sang that... :icon_lol:

For what it is worth Alphasim has a good Grumman Tiger.

I can't wait for the Panther and Cougar

What's a matter with you guys! You missed 89,432 rivets and screws! LOL

This is my cup of tea - can't wait for this and the follow ons!

Many moons ago Real Old Salt and I did some revamp work on the old Aeroplane Heaven F9F for FS9. I was alot of fun to fly, especially on the old straight deck carriers.

Note that the 20 mm canons did not protrude outside of the blast tubes...... Some initial probalems were encountered with the nose cone from over pressure till it was vented.

Another cool feature was the wing tank fuel dump. It was critical to get the landing weight down on the straight deck carriers. Ram air was used to pressurize the tanks and an aft drain fitting was opened to stream the fuel out.

Cheers: T

Phew Deano, between yourselves, Mathias and Dino Cattaneo my list of wants for this year continues to grow and that is without Piglet's continuing Freeware efforts and A2A's much anticipated F-4 Phantom etc. This really does look like it is going to be a vintage year. Best of luck with all your projects .:icon29::icon29:
