I am putting together a computer from new and old parts. I have the graphics card in its slot but I expected a separate power cable from card to power supply unit. I see no place on the card for such a connection. I do see a line from the fan to the card which I have plugged in. I do see some places to plug in fans and such on the mother board - just like I expect. My old computer is 6 years old - and it was not state of the art.

So, is there a separate power from card to psu?

If I get this done I can fly OFF3.

I think what you are looking for is a 4-pin Molex connector from the PS to the card right?

Some older PS's may not have enough power to do that, and you might be stretching the capacity of the PS. It might blow-out.

Try this... if you have a spare DVD or CD connected, take the power from that and add it to the card.

Other than that, I would suggest buying a 500+W PS before you do anything else.

DO NOT JUST BUY AN INLINE MOLEX CONNECTOR!!! If you do that, you might not like the results... how do I know.. been there, done that.

If there is no connector on the card it doesn't need one, simple as that. The fan power is all you need to worry about. It must be fairly old or low end as I haven't seen a card that doesn't require added power (other than what the slot supplies) in a long time..

What kind of card is it? I know that the XFX 8600GT I had got it's power from the PCI bus. No need for external power supply.

This is what I am dealing with:
Mother Board: EVGA 680i A1
CPU: Intel QX6700 EE
Video Cards: Nivdia GF-7800-GTX-A2 (256 each)
Memory: 4GB Corsair Dominator xms2 1066MHz
vid card: Sapphire HD 3650: 512 MB, GDDR3 PCI-E duel DVI/ITVO
HD: Seagate Baracuda 7200-10 250 GB
DVD: LG dvd burner GH20NS15 20x SATA

Power Supply: ULTRA X3 1000w PSU
Cooling System: aquagrafx on CPU and both bridges of mother board,

KOOLANCE EXOS-2 external cooling system (pump.radiator, fans)

You List 3 video cards, from 2 different manufacturers

PLEASE Clarify your pick . . Plus Did that Motherboard ever feature 2 video cards

The motherboard supports SLI, at least my 680i does. There are three PCIe slots, 2-16x, and 1-8x. The upper and lower slots are for video cards and the center one is for a Physics card. If you're running those 3 cards, try putting the 7800s in slots 1 and 3 and leaving the center one empty. You've also got 2 cards that have 256Mb memory and 1 with 512. Not to mention you're mixing ATI and Nvidia, which is not a good idea. Also, whether you know it or not, but running those 2 256Mb cards in SLI only gives you 256Mb of usable memory. They don't add together. IF it were me, I'd take out the 2 7800s and run the single ATI card. At least you'd have twice as much usable memory. More graphics memory is good.

My mistake guys, I am not using the Video Cards: Nivdia GF-7800-GTX-A2 (256 each). I could not find nozzels to fit the German (metric) thread openings in the water blocks. So as a 'temp' measure using the ATI card - which may have to do for some time. I think it will play OFF3 nicely.

Cameljocky,

I am putting the ATI card in the bottom slot. Hope that is good.
