Video card conflict with CFS2 and sound?!

I've been trying to figure out why when I turn the sound off in game my frame rate tanks. Goes from 100+ over ocean and 45 is high mesh terrain down to 8 FPS when I turn the sound off.

So I turned off hardware acceleration and I noticed that if I turned sound off and then on no frame rate hit.

Why would the sound card and video card be conflicting?

Sharing RAM?

I am no hardware expert, but I do know that some vid and sound cards share RAM from anywhere they can get it in the system. Perhaps, when you turn off the sound, it also shuts down the RAM in the card that the vid card was sharing?

I dunno. FS9 does not have this problem.

My systems

i7-930 @ 2.8GHZ
Nvidia 460GTX 1GB
6 GB DDR3 RAM PC1600
500GB Samsung HDD
Creative Xtreme Gamer sound card
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

....its not like my rig is missing horsepower anywhere....

Its amazing what video card drivers can do to a game.

With the 260.99 on my 460GTX I was getting 45-90FPS, cropped start and menu screens, and terrible performance when I turned off the sound.

With the 258.89 I'm getting around 100-170FPS, normal start and menu screens, and performance is the same when I turn the sound off.

And the odd ball thing is that CFS2 was the only game effect this way.

Star Craft II, IL2 1946, and FS9 all behave just fine on either driver.
