Vietnam for CFS2 Beta Release

Hi All, loved the pictures! Unfortunately I lost all my color slides in the Brisbane floods in 1973. I had been posted interstate and my stuff was in a container that went under, I was pretty upset as I was a keen photographer. I'll have a poke through my few black and white negatives and see what I come up with.

That 'bunker' at the beach was replaced when I pulled duty there. The new one was much more GI and effective with an aluminum plate roof with several layers of sandbags.

Phan Rang Bay was a big half moon shape and I checked on google maps to jog my memory. The pumping facility was on the front beach about two thirds of the way north. The shipping was large landing craft that beached hull first then sand was bulldozed to form a spit and the ramps were lowered. I don't remember any piers there.

Google maps also helped me find the airbase and I identified where our barracks were. The RAAF compound was a separate facility.

Hi No Dice, I've downloaded all the stuff I think I need from the site. Is there an install order for these? I'm setting this weekend aside for setting this up, I've also ordered in a quart of rum to help Thanks a bunch!

Hi No Dice, I'm steadily plowing through the install and had a problem with the self extractor for the 'Brown Navy' to the CFS2 folder. In the end I successfully extracted it to a different folder and manually installed. Just a heads up for anyone else building a VN install,

G'day, I've downloaded and installed all the required files but when I ran the sim I get the dreaded corrupt message. I'm now going to do another clean install and just add one file at a time like I should have from the start. I'm not going to give up as the pics of the base at Phan Rang look superb. Back to the drawing board and more rum!!

I should have also stated that applies to anyone,
until I can figure out a way to combine the project download
to a point that most can download the project in 2 or three or four downloads..............

Dave, for making large, combined uploads available to the public, you should investigate the use of 'torrenting'. Just google "how to make a torrent file" and do the home work. A lot can be said about the legalities of torrenting, but that only gets "touchy" when dealing in copyrighted material that you don't own or have distribution rights for.

Several flight sim designers and publishers have used torrents over the years to distribute mega installation files. The Over Flanders Fields mod for CFS3 or "OFF" is a good example, as well as some of the free IL2 updates for modding whole installs.

Rami and I use this to package up self installing campaigns. It can also self install scenery as easily as anything else in CFS2. The only downside is how big your scenery package is, so you would have to do part 1, part 2, part 3 etc. But you can make sure it installs in correct order and that everything intended gets installed into the users' dedicated Viet Nam CFS2.

Now I know that emails are limited to download size, But I am thinking..
Not good when an old red neck tries to do that.... Let me see how big a size ATT will let me upload to the FFS at one time,
Maybe I can upload the project in a few parts there ??

I am getting my developer stuff moved out of my way and will see what I have to do to break it down into as few downloads as possible.
