Viking Inspired Paint for the PAD Dornier Seastar

Here are some WIP images of a new Viking inspired repaint I'm doing for the PAD Dornier Seastar. I'm writing a historic/fantasy novel set in the time of Viking settlements in Vinland - now North America, and decided to fly the route Leif Eiriksson took from Greenland to Newfoundland, as described in the Sagas. At low altitude, FS9 does a great job of portraying a view the coastlines of Baffin Island (Helluland), Labrador (Markland), and Northern Newfoundland (the norhern extremity of Vinland) almost as they were described in the Sagas.

I started in Nuuk, Greenland and finished up in St. Anthony, Newfoundland. This paint scheme developed as I went along. Not quite finished, but when it is I will put it up on my downloads page for anyone interested.

The ship's name is taken from from the infamous Freydís Eiríksdóttir, daughter of Eirik the Red, and either sister or half sister of Leif Eiriksson, depending on which Saga you choose to believe.

The story concept is on my blog here.

A bit of back story on Freydís Eiríksdóttir is here.

And now, the pictures!

Yes Bob, I know the Beaver you refer to and have always admired it. It was in my mind as I was considering the wing art for the Seastar. PAD builds us some fine machines to paint and play with!
