Vintage scenery in FSX

Problem with certain sceneries

I've always wondered what these weird spikes are about on some of the Calclassic sceneries (some have them, most don't).

This is an otherwise lovely Lisbon ... :(

Any way of remedying this?

many thanks!

First thing I would try would be to move ESDG Ramplight library from the Static Objects Library/scenery folder to the main Static Objects Library folder (for safekeeping). If those are the light poles that may eliminate them.

Hope this helps,

Hello Tom,

I tried deleting as well as moving the lamplight bgl - to no avail. In fact, when I looked closely, all that did was affect the presence of the lamplights - they appear to be fine. This seems to be a series of points tied to the placement of the main termanial building - like a mesh/landclass issue. I find landclasses hard to understand - so I may be way off base here, but that's my best guess.

Any help would be appreciated. It is such a nice airport scenery.

thanks,

Visit Malmi, Helsinki

Finnish scenery designers made a great representation of Malmi airport for FS9 (http://www.fsnordic.net/Files) and it is possible to upgrade to FSX downloading the appropriate files from here: http://jpv.kapsi.fi/flightsim/ .

Malmi was opened to traffic already in 1936, but officially it was opened only two years later. The still existing hangar was one of the biggest of its kind in Europe, providing shelter enough to six Ju52s.
The terminal itself is a art of work, proctected by museal laws. Unfortunately the airport itself is not, and the greedy politicians and real estate dealers have already laid their eyes on it. As Finland´s busiest GA airport its existence is at stake at the moment. It is also a home to numerous flying schools and to a Finnish Border Guard unit flying helos (Koala and Bell´s 412).

In sim, this is a very exciting place to fly. There are some modern buildings around the airport, but not too much. If you have for example Flight1´s DC-2, Malmi is perfect for you. Finnair´s predecessor Aero had it and flew it to Stockholm via Artukainen and Åland, to Berlin and to Tallinn. Polish LOT flew there too connecting Helsinki and Warsaw. ABA of Sweden was also a regular visitor. During the war Malmi saw plenty of military operations. In defence of Helsinki a various fighter groups were located there and a Finnish sub-hunting unit with war booty SB-2s. Then the Russians kept it to themselves for a while. After the war it was a beehive until the Seutula, or Helsinki-Vantaa was opened to cope with the Olympic games traffic. American AoA and Pan Am gave finns a possibility to reach States by connecting Helsinki with DC-3s to larger hubs in Stockholm or in Copenhagen.

So, if you are looking for a vintage airport, grab this.

Hi again,

Your picture is taken too far away from the Lisbon terminal to see if there are objects in FS9 located at those "posts" in FSX. Take a closer shot of the the airport, showing a few of these columns close up.

Edit: Looking more closely at the picture it does appear that it may not be related to specific library objects - I can't correlate objects in FS9 with posts in FSX. But FSX sometimes handles "bad" objects oddly, often displacing them so the lack of correlation may not be diagnostic. I would try removing BGL files from the Lisbon folder, and find out which BGL file those posts are located.

Hello William,

Nice scenery indeed - good detail, zero fps hit, in yet another area of the world we don't often hear too much about, but yet is full of rich history. thanks so much.

OK Tom - deleted all bgls, and started adding just one at a time - found the problematic file. Unfortunately, it's the main file - lppt59buildings.bgl.

the shot below is the scenery with just that file in place.

Obviously, there interfence from the default scenery, since the excludes are not in place when I took the shot - But trust me that the excludes work fine when included in the scenery folder as intended.

I hope this helps ...

thanks,

Daniel

Unfortunately, that means there is something incompatible with the buildings, and since I've never seen anything like this before I have no idea what it might be...

I'm guessing it has something to do with the textures (since FSX behaves oddly when missing textures are encountered), but I have no idea which of them it might be or how to fix it.

Sorry,

Harry (the scenery's creator) says:

Hi,

As you know I'm one of the the authors of the Lisbon scenery.
What you see are many "SCO_noaa_antanna_white" from the Generic library.

I used a lot of it......

I have no idea how to fix that problem..

Cheers,

Harry

So if this is true, then it should be possible for someone with Instant Scenery or EZ-Scenery to select and remove those objects...

Hope this helps,

Hello Tom,

Thanks so much for checking. Sounds like we're going somewhere. I don't have either of those programmes, but I'm looking to tackle a retro airport in Canada (and maybe another retro airport in my native Spain) - might be worth getting one of them. I was hoping to create my new aerodromes in ADE (which is free) - maybe there is hope for a fix after all.

Much appreciated you going to Harry - didn't have his contact, so that's a great help.
