Last night, after getting home from a short shift, I had time to do a bit of flying in FS9. The plane I picked was the freeware Alphasim F-80 Shooting Star. As I was flying around, looking at the VC and the externals, I began thinking that the F-80 could use some TLC. And I knew that I had the original Alphasim supplied paint kit for the plane.....so I started looking for it. Could not find it. After some thought, it dawned on me that I had the paint kit saved to CD....and I recently went through my closet and cleaned it out, getting rid of all the stuff in there that I did not actually use.....and part of the stuff that went was all of my old CFS2 and CFS3 disks, all of my old back up discs...including the ones I had my paint kits backed up on....and thus the paint kit for the F-80 had gone to the landfill.
I thought that it was a long shot, but I sent an e-mail to the tech support desk at Virtavia, asking if they still had the F-80 paint kit on hand. Less than an hour later, I had a reply from Phil informing me that he had uploaded the paint kit to the Virtavia/Alphasim freeware site and that the kit was the second one down on the Paint Kits page.
Now in my book....that is customer service. I was NOT a paid customer, so they had not gained one penny of revenue from me. I approached them asking about something free to use on something they had given me for free....and was given a rapid reply and that free thing I was asking for was uploaded so I, and the rest of the world, could easily access it.
Once I get my car all fixed up and rolling right....I will take a chunk of one or two of my paychecks and show my appreciation to Virtavia/Alphasim by finally purchasing a plane or two from them. Have had my eyes on the F-106 for some time now....and I'm sure there is something else they have for FS9 that I can spend time enjoying.
