I believe the although the Dutch Apache are D model they do not have the radome and this is reflected in Virtavia's model.

Radome = "Longbow" radar.

Quite a "noisy" way to find targets, but you won't have to expose the whole 'copter to get an electronic picture of the target area.

Ideally, an Apache team has one radar equipped model and one or more without. The radar bird gets the target information and shares it with his comerades via datalink. Targets and firing zones get assigned and then, well, it's "Hellfire away!"


Note to self: Reinstall EE:CH and EE:AH and get a few more hours in the AH-64.

That's it indeed. Never seen a Dutch Apache with a radome flying here.

Both the US and British versions in the package do have the radome.

Not as noisy as one might think. It's Millimeter Wave technology and while detectable, is far less detectable than the majority of fire control RADARs.

EECH, have you tried ED's KA50? Much nicer and more challenging then the EECH series, though do miss them too.

The Longbow radar system would only be sold to certain allie countries that we have special agreements with. As was mentioned above Britain has them on their Apache's. Using radar to aquire targets may be noisy, but just about any way is really noisy. To use the laser on the FLIR you have to emit the beam, or to use radar guided weapons go that route. Helicopters are not stealthy per say to begin with. The Apache is just graced with a lower radar cross section due to it's narrow width, and a lot of innovation in the drivetrain. The helps keep the bulk of the main rotor pylon down along with giving it its incredible strength in order to do barrel rolls and such. Truly is an impressive machine, and at $16 I am tempted to pick it up. The Blackshark is a very nice bird as well though. Another one I have been eyeing for awhile. Definately need more helo's.

I have both the Apache and Blackshark....I like the Apache better. JMO.

Sure, but I guess the OPFOR would trim their SAM radars to pick the AH-64s emissions up. Anything else would be an open invitation for a Hellfire party.

DCS titles don't have a dynamic campaign, so I'm ignoring them until they have.
